Even if Ole was given the permanent job on merit of 12 game test as ChristianSmith put it, nothing that I have seen could possibly be used to justify the contract extension that has been handed to him and the coaching staff in the last year. Nothing!

Remember that for the Glazers the objective was not winning the title or not even to be competitive. It was to get into the CL. And its financial rewards. He satisfied his side of the contract and the owners rewarded him. Just like a company would reward their CEO if they achieve minimum objectives. And Remember that for owners like the Glazers the CL is all. In fact they would have hated the previous managers who missed out on the CL. Unlike fans, given the choice they would prefer 3 CL places instead of 2 titles and 1 without CL.

I personally don’t think winning the title or even a trophy is in his new contract. I’m afraid to say despite the criticisms here and elsewhere he’ll never be sacked if he keeps United in the CL every yesr. Ultimately it will be the pressure of fans ex players and board members with influence like SAF who may get the Glazers to pull the trigger.

I don't think so. If that was true why sack Mourhino?

No, I think the board and Woody got carried away with the premature euphoria and signed him up on a permanent like fanboys.

They sacked Mourinho because they had to. His position was untenable as he turned against his own players. Of course Woodward was happy that the awful situation was improved but he had the full backing of all the pundits and the fans even he was in favour. His hesitation was severely criticised almost every day. I don’t want to defend him but on this occasion we can’t blame him.

As I said Ole won’t be sacked if he keeps us in the CL places every year. That’s the reality of the glazers as owners.

I'm not blaming him for sacking Jose. I'm just saying that the idea the Glazers didn't give a fck about anything other than finishing top 4 just doesn't add up if they sacked Jose.

He was losing match after match. We were well outside the CL places when he was sacked. So they took action before it was too late . We were 11 points adrift of top 4 ;)

So what, it was December. He finished 2nd the season before.

I don't see it as the reason to give Ole a permanent contract mid way through a season.

well it’s after the event. As I said the clamour and the pressure was huge to make him permanent. Especially after pulling United into top 4 from being 11 points adrift. For the Glazers the CL is everything. They sacked Van Gaal after he won the FA. They don’t value trophies like we do.

And yes they don’t give a **** about anything apart from the CL.

I agre all that happend but there was a thread on the PL forum (by Matth!) celebrating his appointment and I stated immediately then it was a mistake.

    My conscious is crystal clear.

Was never the man for the job. And it was obvious.

I’ve got to say you were in a minority. It was like making a choice between an apple you’ve tasted to be very nice and another one who looked even nicer but never tasted. Of course after the event and the terrible run more people started stating their doubts.

well you seemed to think Jose finishing 2nd gave him some leeway the season after. I was just pointing out Ole finished 2nd last season.

When did SAF first finish 2nd and which of his seasons did you decide he wasn't good enough 1-5?

I never get the comparison to Fergie.

    It's just not relevant.

We'd not won the league for, what, 25 years when Ferguson was appointed. Crumbling squad, full of piss heads.

He ripped it apart and started from scratch.

He also happened to have broken the monopoly of Celtic and Rangers in Scotland (tantamount to breaking up Real and Barca) and won a European trophy in the process, he was clearly a top manager in the making.

Ole inherited a squad of huge signings and added even more to it. His only experience in the premier league was managing Cardiff, and they got relegated.

    The comparison is utter nonsense.

I think ChristianSmith is really Ed Woodward.
Chief, please look up his IP address to make sure he’s not logging in from OT. lol

Which means the sum total of **** all in real life. Huge signings don't always make a good team.

I’m in Toronto. Left Finsbury Park in 2007 but I generally return every year until the covid years.
