After our emphatic win against Dirty Leeds, then it is at home again and time to face Burnley who have not got off to the best of starts and let's hope that continues next week. Hoping for another 3 points here and maybe even more than the one goal. Although in truth I would be content with a scrappy 1-0 win. please log in to view this image v please log in to view this image No idea who the officials are for this one, maybe someone could add those details for me. Anyway, enough from me as I prefer to keep it minimalist.
Team for me: McCarthy Tino- Bedders - Sally - Perraud Armstrong - Diallo - Romeu -Ely Redders - Broja I have given up ever seeing KWP coming in at RB and seeing Tino moved into midfield
It’s always a conundrum, when you are in the rare, for Saints, position of having two good players vying for the same position. I just hope KWP gets enough game time to keep him happy, or he might start angling for a move. The situation is becoming more acute now that Stuey is back, so the Tino-KWP right wing is even less likely. The other factor is Perraud, who had a good game yesterday and linked up well with Djenepo and later Alien down the left. That means less chance for KWP to fill in there, and of course Thierry Small is waiting for a chance as well. So Kyle is going to have to wait for a suspension or, god forbid, an injury to get back, which I suppose is great for us and the squad, but frustrating for a player who hadn’t really put a foot wrong until Tino showed up.
I'd be happier with an emphatic win and a clean sheet. Seeing out games with a one goal lead doesn't do my ageing constitution any good.
I think best case scenario is we keep them both for another season or 2 and then someone comes in and pays big for Livramento (release clause £40m+) We are then left with £40m+ to invest in the squad without actually having to replace Livramento in the 1st team.
Definitely going to need Stuey for this one to break Burnley down. Stuey in for either Moussa or Elyounoussi is the only change to make.
I know it's too early to call this a six pointer. But the opportunity to move seven points clear of Burnley - and leave them floundering on just three points from nine games, with a trip to Stamford Bridge shortly on the horizon - is potentially very big.
I want to see Adam Armstrong back too - although it seems Redmond had a stonker - I'm assuming he was playing in the other forward role alongside Broja? If so, can't really drop him!
As I mentioned on the Leeds thread for all our dominance it took a break away goal for us to finally break through and score. Burnley will be a different proposition and highly unlikely to ever be that open. Will need our creative players to be on it if we want to win
Feels like we’ve been saying that for ages, have we beaten anyone in a league game by 3+ goals in Ralph’s time here?
Not sure, but this period reminds me of the Koeman spell where we couldn't win for toffee and then we went on that great run. Just a feeling. Probably bollox.
I remember somebody else saying “we are going to batter someone soon” maybe even as far back as the Puel era. Pretty sure we haven’t beaten anyone convincingly (score line wise) for about 5 years
China, I feel that your post is rather too verbose and flowery to be truly minimalist. I suggest that your next thread should simply be: 26th October: Saints v some other team. Discuss. If you want to add information, you could change this to: 26th October: Saints away v some other team. Discuss. Incidentally, 26th October is my 30th wedding anniversary. I'm sure Mrs L & O will be more than happy to give me a lift to the station, then pick me up from the last train. We're not doing anything else, really...
Thanks for the tips, congrats on the 30 years of marriage, I will try and remember to quote you if I am still doing match threads by then.
I don't think Burnley really get tonked though. Even the top teams are made to work very hard to break them down. If we win this I think it's gonna be another 1-0 job. Personally I think Burnley will get a goal though so 1-1 is my prediction. Burnley's opening fixtures have been arguably tougher than ours, so their league position is deceiving imo.
Not a chance - I’ll be going …… and I’m the master of the dreadful, boring performance ended by a 1-0 loss. I was surprised I wasn’t at the Wolves game!
