    Birmingham City v Swansea City

    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - St Andrew’s
    Date - 23rd October 2021
    Kick off - 3pm

Following back to back home victories over struggling Cardiff and promotion chasing West Brom, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is a trip to the Midlands to play Birmingham City.

On Wednesday evening in front of 16,649 fans, West Bromwich Albion were beaten for only the second time in the Championship this season as Joel Piroe and Jamie Paterson gave the Swans a thrilling comeback win.

Swans’ boss, Russell Martin, could take huge satisfaction from another progressive Swansea performance, particularly after such a disastrous start to the game when Karlan Grant's fifth goal in as many games had put Valerien Ismael's side ahead inside the first minute.

However, Piroe coolly levelled midway through the second half before Paterson, the hero of the south Wales derby, scored another fine individual goal.

As a result, improving Swansea climb to 15th, while Albion drop to 3rd.

On the same evening, Birmingham ended their run of three successive defeats with a hard-earned point at in-form Huddersfield.

Blues goalkeeper Matija Sarkic made a good save to deny Danel Sinani in a cagey first half.

After the break, Terriers’ sub Fraizer Campbell hit the post twice either side of Blues midfielder Gary Gardner seeing a header go just wide of the post.

The point stops the rot for Lee Bowyer's side but they remain without a win since 10 September and have now failed to score in six successive games for the first time since March 1989.

Birmingham are 19th in the table, 4pts behind the Swans.

The teams have played each other on 39 previous occasions, with Birmingham leading the way with 19 victories compared to 10 wins for the Swans: 10 games were draws.

In last season’s corresponding fixture, the Blues ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a late penalty:

Turning to Saturday, the Swans will be on a high following 2 huge morale-boosting victories and will be hoping to continue their winning streak which would most likely see the Jack Army start to dream of a challenge for the play offs.

On the other hand, the Blues will be desperate to stop their goal scoring drought and keep away from the relegation zone.

I’m hoping that the Swans will make it 3 wins on the bounce and return to South Wales with all 3pts courtesy of a 2-1 win. <cheers>

What a week it’s been ! I see no reason why we shouldn’t win this one. Morale and confidence must be high in the squad and we’ve started to score goals.
I think we can win this by 2 goals.

Thanks Taff. Hopefully we will keep a clean sheet and we will get two 2nd half goals to bring home the bacon. So its a 2-0 win to the mighty Swans.

A 5 or 4 -0 win would make a big statement in how good the team have finally clicked , but anything for another 3pts will do.
    2-0 us

Would it be cheeky to compare the blossoming partnership of Piraeus and Patterson with that of Toshack/Keegan and Rush/Dalgliesh?

Birmingham have not scored a goal in their last SIX league games and taken 2 points from a possible 18. On that basis I would be disappointed if we didn't come away with a win.
    0-2.

I can't remember the last time we won three league games in a row. Hopefully come 5pm (midnight here) I'll have the answer. Cardiff, WBA, Birmingham.
    0-2.

I love seeing the renewed optimism! And I believe it's justified. Let's get another win and keep this juggernaut rolling

    I'll be happy with a 0 - 1.

Poor Steve Cooper. Got us to the playoffs two seasons in a row and now unbeaten at Forest since he took over. Give the guy some credit even if you don't like his style of play!

I will give him full credit for the insipid performance at Wembley - and full credit for the way he chased umpteen jobs whilst still contracted to us <cheers>
