I never thought I'd say this, but I think that many (not all) of our problems is that we let Diedhiou go without replacing him.
He frustrated the hell out of me when he was here, but opposition defenders hated playing against him and he did pop up with some important goals.
Martin by comparison LOOKS the part but quite simply does not deliver.
I'd have big Dave back today.

Letting him go was not the problem, he was useless, and not worth the wages we were paying him. Not replacing him is criminal, as NP had the funds, but brought in his old mate Simpson, who is so bad he had to then go and get another RB to cover him

No at best decent but decent was when his mind was on it and that couldnt be guaranteed. He stole a living for months at the end and became a joy for defenders to play against. Frequently ****e. Great leader of frequently not trying hard at all and a great role model for the boys not to look up to.

19 year old Massengo showed his effort up.

Yes absolutely, whatever you think of him he was a nuisance and scored vital goals, had we replaced him then my answer may be different depending on the quality of his replacement, but we didn’t.

... our top scorer, useless? What does that say for the others - the ones who are still on our payroll?!!!!
Frustrating yes - and often failed to do the basics. Poor first touch, powder puff for a big man agreed - but he scored GOALS

I had this debate with Jiffie before Dave left. His touch at times was awful, his positional sense also left a lot to be desired at times and he didn’t attack the near post enough or make runs down the channels. However he was a handful, occupied defenders leaving space for others to exploit, he had the knack at times of being in the right place at the right time and his goals per minutes was actually pretty good. In short a decent championship striker, not outstanding l, but decent .

Take out penalties, and I don't think he ever scored double figures from open play. The fact he was top scorer highlights the issues we have at the top end of the pitch. For context, Weimann has scored almost as many already without pens as Fammy did in any season. Also, he may have scored some goals, but for me, he caused more issues than he solved with his poor touch, movement, positioning. On the plus side, he hits a shot from 5-6 yards out harder than anyone striker I've seen at AG.

Absolutely - in the last half a dozen or so games in particular. He'd already left - maybe NP told him he hadn't got a future with us?
His effort took a dive that's for sure - I wonder why, but for the most part during his time with us he worked quite hard I thought.

well enough quotes to form a reply! ... rather do them 1 at a time .................
He was not useless, you have to look at a team as a team not just an individual 11 players on the pitch and they finish with more wins more points and a higher position than we are now is a success.
He did act as a distraction, [ layed off ] and we / others had opportunities to score, he was also / had the knack of helping prevent the odd few goals
penalties aside our results were better than now with the team he was in ... a number of his ex team mates still form the basic squad!
Ive said on other posts NP's LAST FEW games of last season were safe from going down and he needed to experiment. [on the flip side if this was not the case then we under his guidance were totally cr#p]

Fammy didnt want to leave, did state happy with family here and kids at school agent was possibly over powering!....

Its hindsight would we be in top half/ top six with 25 + points averaging 1.5 average points pre DH and Fammy in side? we will never know it is what it is life is a straight line .............

some of the reasoning for the clearout ...days after season end was flawed odd comments have surfaced .. but BAKERS was a point in the direction .... Fammy was allowed to go CM was back! Pato went because NP had not had a chance to see him play a lot etc ... I think NP [ which we all know due to Covid ] could only buy, in an enviroment that had an income, via gate... transfer out ... reduced wage bill ..... or player was free or bargain basement.

    present state 17th W5 D4 L8 GF 19 GA 27 SHOTS 174 ON TARGET 56 ....... PTS 19
    last season .. 17th W9 D3 L5 GF27 GA 21 SHOTS 172 ON TARGET 60 ........PTS 30

11pts behind .. interesting fact SHOTS /ON TARGET are pretty close, this season = 2. 947 [.34 ] close to average of championship as a whole, last season 2.222 [.45]

    30pts would put us in 4th ...

Diedhou was never going to be our saviour and his work rate was useless so let's move on and get a better replacement for him as the ones we have are even less up to the task.

Diedhiou always baffled me. In defence at corners he won most challenges in the air. In front of goal won **** all.

Defending static balls and a zone easy stuff. Other end requires more than that Fam a target man! Don’t make me laugh, his control, hold up play, heading ability !!

He was the stereotypical Bristol City player who takes the money and gives very little in return. I am starting to feel like we are the retirement home for players who want to earn good money for their retirement and are probably way past caring about the shirt that feeds them. Greedy selfish arses.

Simpson wasn’t brought in to replace Fam, and his wages won’t be anywhere near his either. I didn’t agree with Simpsons appointment but nothing to do with Fam going

Don’t agree he didn’t try hard, (apart from at the end when he had already been let go and didn’t want to get injured), he had limited ability, but was difficult to play against created space for others, scored at a better rate than any of our current crop and did well in our penalty area too. Like I said a decent championship striker.

I think all those that were shown the door made way to pay those we have brought in this season.

of course, we were not going to increase the squad and add more of a burden to out goings saving the wages of a dozen, allowed replacements... obviously not on as high remuneration ... unless his mates got mates rates [ premier style! ]
