I think there needs to be a level of continuity, if you change everything very quickly, then things can go wrong. Maybe, someone like Pennock might be kept on the coaching staff, as he knows the players and has been around even before McCann came on the scene?
Who knows? If McCann keeps getting results they might have 2nd thoughts about him or the plan might be set in stone. Que sera sera, I'm happy enough to just wait and see now.
I've been witness to more than one business, which were bought, and the old management dispensed with, and new management brought in, who had no experience of the company they were managing, only for it to turn out to be a disaster. Football is different I know, but even so, whenever you take over a club, IMO you need some continuity, whether that is McCann staying for a short period or someone like Pennock being there, I feel the new owner and coach needs to have some help with the transitional period.
Yes, its fairly normal practice to keep senior folk on for a while after a takeover. When my company was sold 2 of us had to stay on for 12 months to assist the handover. We did but it was clear the folk on the ground didn't really want us there. You know, 'we're bigger than you, we know better'. They didn't. After the 12 months we cleared off with our money, they ran the business into the ground inside 2 years!
Agree with your post, think the link between the old regime and the new one on the footballside will be Pennock, as for McCann while i wish him well where ever he ends up in the eye's of many city fans he is a Allam's man.
Eaves was doing shuttle runs on the pitch with Ingram, ahead of Reserves game on Saturday. He looked less than delighted with his lot, which strongly suggests to me that a spell at Scunthorpe, or similar, is beckoning. if he can get his head straight (he was a first choice Championship striker 18 months ago) then he will score plenty for Scunny.
I don't think he's ever really looked comfortable at this level, or even in League 1 for us. Obviously he's scored goals occasionally, mostly from the bench, but he's not really had a good spell of form. Something must have been different for him at Gillingham, to have done so well there. I think his lack of progress at City reflects poorly on our management/coaching. From day one he's done simple stuff poorly, like making frequent obvious fouls again and again. Surely that should be one of the easier things to coach out of a player, but he's never shown any sign of looking to do it any less often.
I agree with this and think something similar applies to Wilks, who seems to me to make the same mistakes as he was making 18 months ago. Eaves has had his moments but been very inconsistent, as to be fair has Magennis. I've personally always felt that if Eaves had been given a 10 game run in the first team, accepting that he would have some poor games in that run, at the end of that spell he might well have been a better bet than Josh. Even recently thought he was doing ok when he came in. I admit he has been poor at times but somehow not given the same leeway as certain other players. I often wonder if McCann didn't rate him in the first place.
Wilkes looks to me like he's putting on weight too, and not just bulking up. That's always concerning for me when it happens to a professional athlete during a season - something is out of balance with diet and exercise. Should be an easy fix if the various trainers etc are on the case.
Lots of banging on and it will not take a lot a couple of signings in January firstly an experienced centre half and someone to put the ball in the back of the net We will be ok.
That’s like Magennis being caught offside. Is there a player in world football more offside than Josh ‘Offside’ Magennis?
Neither are good enough to be playing in the Championship every week, but they're both top professionals and I can't argue with their commitment.
I agree. Although playing in attacking formation (like Saturday) means they can still be effective enough at this level.
If they've got the right support around them, they'll be effective enough sure, but we saw against Birmingham that even when we're dominating, Magennis was missing chances he would have put away last season.
Eaves was an awful buy all due to Ehabs cost cutting. The fact we signed Eaves and Magennis when we had Bowen and Grosicki was horrific. You can’t fault their hard work, but Eaves first touch is horrendous, his ability to jump off the ground is non existent and his ability to give away fouls is top notch!
