As much as Pukki has been our main scorer again this year. I cant help thinking a big man up front would help us. We look most dangerous in wide areas with Rashica and Aarons, but we never have any height in the box. Could do with a target to aim our decent crosses at.

Mixed results in other matches with Villa winning, Leeds drawing like us and Southampton and Newcastle losing. Burnley host Spurs tomorrow, Brentford host Everton and Watford are at Leicester.

DS giving Cantwell, Gilmour, Dowell and now Tzolis game time so far. If Normann is out maybe time for Sorensen to come in our of the cold? Not sure what happened for DF to freeze him out, but when he has played he always performed well, mostly in a position he was not familiar with. Is the step up to the EPL too much for him?

I was hoping DS arrival might spark more game time for Sorensen but so far he hasn’t even made the bench for DS’s first 2 games.

The first choice that has to be made is which of these players would you drop to put Sørensen on the bench:

Subs: Gunn, Omobamidele, Giannoulis, Rupp, Cantwell, Dowell, Lees-Melou, Tzolis, Idah

I'm an admirer of Sørensen as well, but I honestly can't see who I'd drop to include him. It might be that he and Rupp are in competition for that place and Rupp has more PL and Bundesliga experience and is more versatile in defence and attack. He certainly played well yesterday and justified his inclusion. With only two players not available, we have 22 outfield players and only 19 places to fill. That meant that Sørensen, Kabak and Mumba missed out yesterday. The other factor could be that with a 3 man midfield, there is less need for a specialist DM, which favours Rupp over Sørensen. It could be that Sørensen is only one injury away from getting on to the bench and if Normann is not available on Tuesday, Sørensen should be on the bench.

I thought some of our passing in the match was the best I have seen from Norwich this year, though with the ball holding up in the air and skipping off the sodden turf we didn't seem to get the connections on some of the shots.

I watched most of the Newcastle game and I think they are bottom for a reason, they had a few chances, but I think if we play with the intensity of the 2nd half today we will win.

As for Hanley I think I'll start calling him 'the cat' from now on, not because he's like Phil Tufnell, but because cats have a mad 5 minutes every so often and that's what it seems with Hanley, he'll be fine the do something mad and then go back to being fine.

Perhaps he has temptations to climb the curtains in his mad five minutes at home. Our cat certainly does. <laugh>

I agree about the passing being good in difficult conditions and we certainly matched Wolves in that. I'm getting the impression that we're becoming a well drilled side in defence and attack since Smith arrived. That is also very noticeable in our set piece play.

Ours runs up and down the corridor and slides on the wooden floor like a rally driver around corners into rooms! Hanley's feet seem to have a mind of their own for about 2mins each match!

Zonal marking seems to have been ditched? Some of the interplay between players was really eye catching and was much better than Wolves. I would have taken a draw at the start, but can’t help agreeing with others that is was 2 points lost. Bringing in a consistent striker is essential and I can only hope that DS has started his search. Perhaps look abroad for a gem like Pukki?

We have scored 4 goals in the last 3 games, so it's hardly a drought. It was frustrating not to score from at least one of the 4 good chances we created though. Given that SW has said that January will be a quiet window, so I doubt we'll see a new striker unless it's someone like Villa's Keinan Davis on a cut price deal.

Since DS took over, Normann has basically been playing as a DM, a change which IMO has unquestionably helped us defensively. In which case I'd say there is now more opportunity for Sørensen than there was under Daniel Farke. It'll be interesting to see if he comes into contention for Tuesday in the event that Normann is ruled out.

I agree with that Robbie, but I also have some reservations about Normann being limited to the DM role. Exhibit A would be his goal against Brentford which was the key to that win, IMO. Perhaps as a DM he could still play the killer through ball to Pukki that produced a goal, but if losing those capabilities is to be the price paid for bringing Gilmour into the line-up there seems to be an unknown future. It may turn out be the right balance but I'm not yet convinced.

Normann was clearly struggling physically with his pelvis problem against Wolves but since he arrived he has been our best player, IMO, and he's our highest rated player on WhoScored. Gilmour is also a player with huge potential, so we'll just have to wait and see how this plays out.

I agree that it seems playing as a DM we won't get the versatility and perhaps 'the best' out of Normann, but it might be better for the team overall. If it helps us stay up from which we can strengthen in the DM area and then the following year Normann can play in a better position the following year. It's all about survival and building from there.

He has, but under DF he was playing in a team most of whom gave the impression of not fully knowing what they were supposed to be doing. Now he has real competition in the form of Rashica, Gilmour, Williams et. al.
Even before Normann signed we were told that DF fancied him precisely because he wasn't simply an Ollie Skipp clone and offered more than Skipp from an offensive point of view. We were also told that that was music to Normann's ears, so it isn't surprising that that's what we saw. DS, on the other hand, has looked at what the team needs and asked Normann to adjust accordingly; he's now playing more as he does for Norway.

Yes, that's the balance I was talking about really. We don't know how Normann feels about that, though. He plays in a two man midfield for Norway, which naturally means more concentration on defensive duties. The other side of his game is his ability to provide telling passes and through balls to the attacking players which could be more limited if he's playing deeper. I'm also wondering where the goals are going to come from, as Rashica, Sargent, McLean, Gilmour et al don't seem to be delivering. This could give some credence to the Hourihane rumours, as he has been a regular goal scorer and can also play as a DM.

On the plus side, Gilmour has been boosted by the changes Smith has made, but ironically he had to slot into the DM position when Norman went off, with Rupp playing on the right. If Normann isn't available for Newcastle, Smith could retain that midfield or bring in Sørensen at DM, as Robbie suggests. Given how well he played, it would be hard on Rupp if he is bypassed for Sørensen. Lees-Melou is another possibility on the right as there are several options for Smith to choose from. It's early days for him and his team, though, so we'll have to see how it plays out.

Edit: Normann has been ruled out for Newcastle at the presser this morning. He's going to see a specialist about the pelvic problem.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have problems of their own:

Aarons against Lewis in the making. 3.45am kick off for me the day before I head to Manila airport for a flight to Birmingham. Will be in UK for about 5 freezing weeks but unlikely to be able to get to a match unfortunately. 8.23pm, 27° here. Not looking forward to it except seeing my daughters again.
