It's been missing for several seasons.

    Definitely the last three.

That was game tailor made for Cavani, we needed a focus up front, someone who could draw in one or two of City's defenders, but no, we play a false nine. Sancho seems to be showing some promise - just as well as Rashford seems to have lost all of his confidence.

I think Cavani has already left in his own mind.

I found the front three odd. If Cavani and Ronaldo aren't up for playing, then Rashford should be given a run at centre forward.

    bollocks to this 4 2 2 2 again, go 4 3 3.

Although got to be honest, we were equally as dreadful once we changed, but they'd all given up or hidden by then anyway.

It was a capitulation - embarrassing beyond belief. That has to be a yardstick of where we really are, no more Watford or Aston Villa - if we want to compete at the top the amount of work to be done is clear for everyone to see. Keano is absolutely right, and we should be getting him in as an interim manager rather than Ralf who is obviously ineffective, and worse, seems to be disrupting the dressing room.

The league season was over when we drew the games against Watford and Burnley. I'm not fussed now about what happens until we get to the summer.

Personally I'm happy for Rangnick to stay, his approach is better than anything we've seen since Fergie left. I'd like him to have a say in the next manager so we have a partnership[ between Rangnick, Arnold and the new manager with a new ethos that completely overhauls the footballing philosophy which has been a virus in the club for the previous 6/7 years.

I wouldn’t think getting rid of Rangnick is the answer. It’s like the Augean stables. Needs complete clear out of the ****. We have players who don’t try when the going gets tough. Tbf it’s not only in the recent months, it’s been ****ty since the beginning of the season. It’s like why should I sweat if others are not doing it. A dressing room in disarray with many players knowing that they won’t be there next season.

Head above the parapet - signing CR was a BIG mistake, it destabilised the squad, it crushed the ambitions of Rashford/Greenwood/Sancho and cancelled out the positive effect of Cavani. Bruno has suffered too, CR has confuzzled the whole thinking of where we were going coming into this season and his return has not been anywhere near worth the trouble. Discuss.

Unless there is some clause in his contract that says he has to play when available, I don't see how it could and can be anything other than a positive. It still should be, the situation has to be managed better.

How can he have a detrimental effect on four players who play in different positions? It makes no sense.

He can't be held accountable for Greenwood's demise for a start.

Sancho doesn't play in the same position, not sure how it crushes his ambitions? He seems to be bedding in a bit now at least. Rashford's poor form is down to himself alone(can maybe give him some slack originally when coming back from injury, but not anymore)

And Fernandes doesn't play in the same position on the pitch?

    Cavini is rarely fit anyway.

If all these players have reacted to Ronaldo appearing by thinking 'he's here now, I'm never ever going to be able to play where I want again' they need lining up and shooting.

It's too easy to blame someone else for their own poor attitude and form.

By the way, Sevilla don't what to keep Martial. Is that Ronaldo's fault as well? Or is it that he's another spoofing fake.

I can't believe we're falling for the United/Ronaldo haters' rhetoric. He's done fck all wrong <laugh>

If anything HE' is being held back by the general debacle at the club.

Greenwood had a poor second season last year. I can probably dig up a dozen threads from a year ago recounting how he hadn't scored in months. And when he wasn't scoring he certainly wasn't assisting.

Brave post ;) I've been thinking that too since the previous regime and team went into meltdown. Like Chief argues above it seems illogical but somehow the arrival of Ronaldo being associated with team disharmony and meltdown seemed an incredible coincidence after such optimism at the start of the season. We will never know for sure but can only speculate.

It's got **** all to do with Ronaldo ffs.
Was he on the field today when they literally just gave up (every one of them), Keane came out with something that i have mentioned quite a few times on here, professional pride, none of them seem to have any.
We have not had one single leader at the club now for a long time (Ronaldo isn't one he's more of a sulker).
The whole squad is weak of mind and pride in what they do, one player around the middle of the park to throw some reality ****s into them would make a difference, two or three would make a massive difference.
(will possibly excuse De Gea from this because he sometimes has a go at the defenders and at least looks like he cares)

    Well said <ok>

I think there's a rot set in within the club that no matter who comes in, no matter the quality, they all have their natural game and confidence sapped.

Bruno, Rashford, Maguire, Greenwood, AWB, Ronaldo, and even Sancho - it's happened to all of them. Although tbf to Sancho he at least seems to be fighting his way out of it.

There's something which brings the players down rather than enabling them to lift the others up. It's very strange tbh.

My thinking is it's become embedded over a period of 6/7 years.

And it's going need a clean slate and new club ethos - on and off the pitch to sort it out.

I wouldn't be too upset if the new manager played a couple of games and if the same attitude came through dropped half the team and replaced them with U23s. We would probably lose a few but at least show some effort which in time could come good.

Time to be brutal and thin the fat. I'm sure behind the scenes, Rangnick et al know who's being cut loose... and it's pretty likely those players themselves know they're out. That no doubt is poisonous in the dressing room and impacts on the performances on the pitch.

Pogba, Lingard, Mata, Cavani are off obviously, although I only see one of those being poison.

Then I'm talking about a few others - Shaw, Lindeloff, Matic, AWB who may be part of the clear out and one or two of them knowing this - have already downed tools or given up.

Good riddance I say, and bring in (or bring through) players who actually want to be a part of building something great again because I believe it's do-able and isn't a massive task with the right management in place.

Made a similar post on another thread a few weeks back about geting rid of some ****e and using our younger players who are currently out on loan.

Out of yesterdays squad, my own assessment would be-

    De Gea - keep
Wan Bissaka - keep, just. There's a player in there somewhere, he just needs to find a position. (bring Ethan Laird back into squad)
    Lindelof - get rid
Maguire - keep, just. (bring Tedgen Mengi and Axel Tunazebe back from loan)
Telles - keep (bring Brandon Williams back from loan)
McTominay - get rid. Not good enough, the end (bring back James Garner, who is better)
    Fred - keep, squad player.
    Pogba - get rid
    Fernandes - keep
    Sancho - keep
    Elanga - keep

    Subs

Bailly - get rid (see comment re Menghi and Tuanzebe)
Jones - what happended after his comeback when he played well? Injured again, immediately! get rid (ditto above)
Rashford - integrate into first team as a striker, although a No.9 needs to be signed.
    Lingard - get rid
    Dalot - keep, just
    Henderson - get rid
    Matic - get rid
    Mata - get rid
    Mejbri - keep

    Key players not in yesterday's squad;

Ronaldo - keep, one more season max.
    Varane - keep
    Shaw - get rid
    Cavani - get rid

We then need three or four new players in key postions who buy into the new regime and aren't just ****ing Instagram dancers.

cant argue with most of the above. I would keep McTominay and get rid of AWB though.
