A terrible Arc but, if Torquator Tasso repeats last year’s performance against Tarnawa, he wins. Otherwise, take your pick- my money stays in my pocket.

I’ve had an each way flutter on the Juddmonte filly in the Marcel Boussac - Ardent. She was 3rd on debut before winning convincingly next time out. The filly behind her in 2nd, Ashiya, won her maiden nicely last week.

She was beaten on debut by Kelina, who is favourite for this race, but much too short a price for me! The form of that debut run has worked out really well with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th all winning since and the 5th and 6th both finishing 2nd on their next starts.

I put ALPINISTA on the Arc thread as I wanted to reference my previous remarks on there.

I note that on the Arc support card, the bookies on OddsChecker seem to be opposing all the fancied British and Irish runners. They are probably going to be right about several of them.

On form, there is no doubt that The Antarctic is the best horse in the opening Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère having chased home stablemate Blackbeard in several top races. But do I really want to be on him only eight days after the Middle Park and on soft ground? No. Shartash will like the ground after his National Stakes third whilst Tigrais and Breizh Sky fought out the Prix La Rochette over course and distance and just need to prove they handle the ground.

I would love to see The Platinum Queen win the Prix de l’Abbaye for Richard Fahey as she gets all the age and sex allowances plus she has a good draw near to the rail that could assist if she can get across. My concern is that she got nailed on the line in a Group 2 race on soft ground last time.

The form pick in the Prix de la Forêt is clearly Kinross, who won the Park Stakes on soft ground last time beating three year old New Energy, who I cannot see reversing that on worse terms. The three year old filly Tenebrism won the Prix Jean Prat over seven furlongs, chased home Saffron Beach in the Prix Rothschild (Goldistyle and Malavath behind) but was behind Pearls Galore (reversing Rothschild form) and Saffron Beach in the Matron. She now drops back to seven and should be a contender. However, I am going for a bit of an upset on what will hopefully be a good afternoon for Kirsten Rausing. SANDRINE won the Albany on very soft ground at Ascot last year but has raced on quick ground exclusively this season. That includes when third to Kinross at the Ebor meeting at York after winning the Lennox at Goodwood (Kinross second).

The Prix de l’Opéra almost looks like some sort of Arc consolation race. We might have expected to see Tuesday and La Parisienne in the big race but both line up here. The first thing to note about Tuesday is that Ryan Moore has chosen course and distance winner Above The Curve ahead of her and that seems perfectly reasonable as Joseph O’Brien’s filly won the Blandford (beating Insinuendo with Ryan aboard) after winning the Prix Saint Alary (beating Place Du Carrousel); however, she was beaten in the Cheshire Oaks on soft ground. La Parisienne is the best of the home defence, having warmed up in the Prix Vermeille (Fall In Love behind) after a summer break. Her previous race was the Prix de Diane, where she finished ahead of Rosacea, Agave, Fall In Love and Place Du Carrousel but behind the best middle distance three year old filly in Europe, NASHWA, who has looked bomb proof since dropping to ten furlongs after finishing behind Tuesday in the Oaks. The Gosden filly has clearly been laid out for this and the bookmakers’ drift is welcome!

Given that connections of Vadeni plumped for Longchamp rather than Ascot, stating at the time that they thought they would get better ground in Paris, does the prevailing going ("very soft") mean they might pull him out of the race today? It would certainly be an elegant solution to the Soumillon quandry ...................

Well Rishi is at the course and has said it isn't that testing - in that case I'd give Mishriff an e/w squeak at rewarding odds.

Champ Kiely wins the grade 3 novice hurdle at Tipperary (Brazil second) and is now trading at 16s for the Supreme,14s for the Ballymore and 22s for the Albert Bartlett. Brazil was rated 142 coming into this so Champ Kiely giving him 1lb and a 4.5 lengths beating has potentially run to around 148 BUT Brazil's first run of the season so maybe not to be taken too literally.

I assume Paul Townend is resting his injured hand?
