You get about £750k for every point made in the group stage, so crashing out in the style Rangers did obviously loses money no matter how much you got for qualification. Where did all the Bassey money go? They've hardly spent it wisely - Colak was on a good run but seems to have gone off the boil, and the occassional goal from Tillman. Most of your goals are coming from Tavernier who must be coming up to retirement!! Your defence is porous without Bassey and Balogun (no, you can't have him back either), and very leggy. The Rangers fans I know haven't been happy with Gio for a while, and it was only a matter of time before he was shown the door. It's a poisened chalice though as success is only measured against one other club (same for Celtic as well). Good luck with your hunt for a new manager, just keep away from W12
We were never going to get many points from the group, it was always amount the money for qualifying, the TV money and the £9 million or whatever in ticket sales etc. Our defence has been ****e for years, even the year we went unbeaten in the league, we were still pish and that was apparent in Europe. Bassey had a decent 6 months for us, we would have been mental not to take it. A lot of money has been paid out in building the new museum, upgrading Ibrox and paying off loans. Our accounts were decent this year for the first time in God knows how long. We still spent about £12 million or something in the summer, but as you say, it looks like it wasn't spent wisely, we signed too many injury prone players, our injury list has been horrific all season. About 3 weeks ago most Rangers fans were wanting Beale as manager, but now, I don't know many who want him. I don't think that is anything against Beale it is more that we need somebody with more experience to get us out of the mess we are in! Fans would prefer Beale at Rangers a few years from now. A shame you have gone through a rough patch in the last 5 games, I liked seeing you tip of the league. Is 7th position not still better than most people expected at the start of the season though?
Think most of us would've been happy with that before season started, especially with the minute amount that was invested in the squad. Beale has done well but our lack of depth has come to the fore again - the World Cup break has come at a good time for our players to recuperate and Beale to work with them on the training ground.
Word on the street is that the compensation that we would need to pay to get Beale is £1.5 million, does that sound about right?
Is compensation a random figure or is it linked to the value of the contract being bought out? If the latter it would put Beale on about £500k a year for a three year contract, which sounds about right, in line with the cap for player wages.
I am really not sure, it would all depend on clauses in his contract, I was just wondering if a figure was mentioned when Wolves were sniffing about
It’s very distracting for the club to keep going through this rumour mill week after week, sacking after sacking. Beale needs to scotch the rumours as soon as is fairly possible. I understand he wants to keep his stock high - but he’s stated his ‘principles’ so shouldn’t be an issue to deny this opportunity as he did with Villa. Why wait any longer. Just upsets the club, players and fans alike.
That's not going to be easy - they are stubborn at tee back and difficult to break down. Held Rangers a couple of weeks ago, and beat Aberdeen. One of the better SPL sides so a good test - if we've got a manager by then

Hey Sooper, umbrellas not invented yet in 1948? Or is all that moisture from people pissing in the street (no port-a-loos back then). Pretty hard to hold it back when your bus is delayed or overcrowded.
