Who is Glasgow Rangers playing on Saturday?
(I am assuming that the Scottish leagues didn't take a break, just like League One in England)

Do you really want Critchley ? He walked out on Blackpool to replace Beale as number 2 at Villa. Don't you think he might do the exact same as Beale if a so called bigger club comes calling ? Get Wilder in and a striker in January, I think he'd get us top 6.

Michael Beale: Rangers appoint former assistant as manager as he leaves QPR

    Report
Michael Beale has returned to Rangers as manager - leaving Queens Park Rangers after six months in charge of the English Championship club.

The 42-year-old Englishman, who has signed a deal until 2026, replaces the sacked Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Londoner Beale had been Steven Gerrard's assistant when the Ibrox side won the Scottish title in 2020-21.

He followed Gerrard to Aston Villa in November 2021 before opting to become a manager in his own right.

"I am hugely proud, it is a wonderful, wonderful football club, it is an institution," Beale told the Rangers website.

"For everyone that works here it is a huge privilege, but to be the manager of this football club, that is extremely special. Some wonderful people have sat in this chair prior to me, and I am hugely proud to be the person sat here now."

Beale turned down an approach from Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers when QPR were top of the table in October. They currently lie seventh in England's second tier after five games without a win.

He takes over a Rangers side who dispensed with Van Bronckhorst's services only five months after the Dutchman led them to Scottish Cup triumph and the Europa League final.

They have won just twice in seven outings and trail reigning champions Celtic by nine points.

Having had spells with Charlton Athletic, Twente in the Netherlands and in the United States, Beale's playing career ended when he was just 21.

After investing in a futsal facility in London, he was involved with the Chelsea and Liverpool academies and also had a spell as assistant at Brazilian club Sao Paulo.

"I am pleased to welcome Michael back to Rangers," said sporting director Ross Wilson. "I know how excited he is about everything that comes with the prestige of being Rangers manager.

"Equally our players and staff at both the training ground and at Ibrox are looking forward to working with Michael. He has a clear plan and will get to work with the group straight away along with the technical and support staff."

QPR director of football Les Ferdinand added: "Naturally we are hugely disappointed to lose Mick.

"Our extensive research when we were looking for a new head coach highlighted him as being very much aligned with the direction we are moving in as a football club.

"The start to the season we have made, coupled with very attractive football being played, gave us cause for optimism as we looked to build on the previous three seasons.

"That optimism remains but there is no doubt it is a blow to lose Mick so soon into his tenure."

I’d sooner they dug up Gene Wilder than Chris.

I think it's the sort of BS a lot of people say about a lot of jobs, and walk back from as soon as they're offered a few extra thousand per year, let alone per week. Loyalty doesn't exist in football, and BS football clichés are two a penny. Our fanbase wouldn't have any care for loyalty if his run without a win had gone on for 5 more games and we sacked him.

Is it embarrassing for him? Yep. I'm not here to defend him, but I also just think it's the way of the modern football world and goes both ways.

Ah yes, you and the mysterious 20-goal a season striker who we can pick up on no fee within our wage structure. Can't remember what 30+ year old has-been you were touting in the summer but who are they scoring 20+ goals for now?

Nah, it would have been easy for him to say something bland and totally acceptable about turning down the Wolves job ‘very fkattered, not the right time’ etc. Nobody would have said ‘that’s not enough, we demand a lecture on loyalty and integrity explicitly related to QPR’ which is what he chose to give. Stupid twat, now he has a reputation as two faced and many people hoping for him to fail.

The way we have played football recently, complete ****, softens the blow, but I hope he’s soon labelled the new Paul Clement.

I am ( to put it mildly) hugely disappointed.

    I cannot wish him well

( contrast this to Eze's departure ...all of us sad, all of us understood, all of us wished him well.

the appearance at Rangers matches before von Brockenhurst was sacked ( really BAD form)

The loyalty speech after the Wolves approach, the talk to the school last week about the QPR project, the taking of 3 backroom personnel leaving us short with 10 days to go before we play Burnley..

    I will not forget this.
This is nothing to do with Rangers, my love of QPR, or anything like that.

This is straight disloyalty, especially after you pushed it so much 5 weeks ago..

Fair enough - as I say, no interest in defending him but I've not come to expect much else from football.

I really can't get too worked up about Beale leaving for a better job. Sure, it makes what he said before embarrassing, but I don't really care. Don't forget we once had Harry ****ing Redknapp.

At the B Team game against Derby. 1 nil down at 6 mins but more interestingly Kenny Jacket is here.

Two good posts. And I sort of agree with both of you. Whatever happens, he came to us with an excellent reputation both as an honourable man and a far-thinking football technician. It's going take him some time to restore his reputation for the former.

Bang on. Why spout the loyalty crap if you know there’s still a chance you might join another club in a few weeks. The bloke’s an embarrassment to himself

    Mmm....we'll agree to differ.
He didn't need to make such a gushing statement about loyalty etc. I secretly suspect he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
He'll never be trusted anywhere again.

I would love to hear what Ian Holloway thinks of Mr Beale, should be a rather interesting read
