Guess that means we’ll be hearing from our old friend Sparky again after the World Cup. Won’t be on here once England have kicked their butts.
Because the purpose of football as I understood it is to try and win games not to try and lose them. Especially after dragging loyal fans all the way to Cardiff and back
The purpose of a team playing a football game is indeed to win the game (or get a draw in some circumstances) But the purpose of a football club, is not to win EVERY game that they qualify to play ie: Football clubs can and do prioritize the games/competitions that they enter. So the question remains: Why should Leeds United prioritize winning the FA Cup ?
Well we have been drawn away from home in the last 29 of 34 FA Cup ties since 2002, so it's not exactly a lot of effort for someone to work out who our last home tie (not counting replays) was against For those who want their research reduced even further, it was against a Championship side, so you now have a 1 in 24 chance of guessing correctly . Edited : because having checked I would've been incorrect, although the answer is still a championship club
Disagree with this. The purpose of every club is to win every single game they play in. They can’t of course, but that should definitely be the purpose
No it's not If that was the case, how do you explain the big clubs putting out weaker teams (no first XI players etc) ? Are you claiming that Leeds United don't do this ? Do you know what the team Leeds United fielded in their last EFL Cup game ?
Well I've added a further part, as my original response was in relation to third round ties, so we have been drawn at home in a round after the third round which would be the true answer to the question posed
But it’s not prioritizing. We have a crew who will have had a six week break on run up to cup match. They’ll play meaningless friendlies during that period yet won’t play in an FA cup game and yet expect 5k fans to cough up a fortune to watch the reserves. Not right however you want to look at it
Okay, maybe “should be the purpose of every club”. The bigger clubs have the players to play “weakened” teams and still win.
