Imuetiyan? I'm fairly sure Agbonlahor chose not to press charges. He described the EDL as a 'group of mentally deficient right wing numpties' and certainly isn't their 'friend'. I don't think you can be blamed for who his family are, which I'm sure Terry is equally thankful for.

I don't doubt Barton has done some terrible things in the past but everything you put is either irrelevant or untrue. Since he's given up the booze he's been a good boy.

Exactly. And apparently, since he's given up (allegedly) racially abusing fellow players and (alledgedly) cheating on his missus, John Terry has also been a good boy.

Chelsea and England captain John Terry will be charged with racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand, the Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed.

Terry has strongly denied aiming a racist slur at Ferdinand during Chelsea’s defeat to QPR in October but police launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from a member of the public.

And, after studying extensive TV footage, the CPS has decided the 31-year-old will face criminal charges over the incident.

The news comes a day after the FA handed Liverpool striker Luis Suarez an eight-game ban for aiming racist remarks at Manchester United's Patrice Evra during a Premier League match in October.

The FA are waiting until the police investigation is concluded before deciding whether to dish out a punishment to Terry.

Alison Saunders, Chief Crown Prosecutor for London, said: "I have today advised the Metropolitan Police Service that John Terry should be prosecuted for a racially aggravated public order offence following comments allegedly made during a Premier League football match between Queen's Park Rangers and Chelsea on 23 October 2011. The decision was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors and after careful consideration of all the evidence I am satisfied there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and it is in the public interest to prosecute this case. Mr Terry will appear before West London Magistrates' Court on 1 February 2012."

That statement is fairly straight forward.

What it DOES mean is that nothing will happen as far as the FA are concerned between now and then. They wouldn't be able to do anything under their own disciplinary code that might prejudge the criminal case. Where there's a grey area for them is whether they continue to support the national captaincy of a man facing criminal charges for breaching not only the law but the FA's own rules. Given the FA's record on disciplinary matters, it's a coin-toss.

No mate he has been charged and will appear before magistrates on Feb 1st

 

There is no Jury in a magistrates court. However the Magistarates will probably move his case up to the Crown Court as it requires a bigger sentence than they are autorised to give. And then you would have a Jury.

All those Law lessons are paying off lol.

 

Yeah, I didn't say there was a jury in the Magistrates Court. Seems to be of sufficient gravity for a crown court, and hear the evidence, presumably of several QPR players and possibly the referee.

 

They dont hand pick the Jury do they? QPR players are likely to give a biased verdict.

CPS have said that the worse thing he can be given is a fine. Seeing as Magistrates can only give a maximum of £5,000 fine they could move it up the Crown Court to allow a bigger fine to be given. Although he will probably not give a **** about the fine, more about what the FA will do.

 

Ok, I'm wrong. No jury, just magistrates.

Incidentally, I doubt a QPR fan would have been accepted onto a jury - it was a tongue in cheek comment

 

The best outcome, from a QPR team point of view, would have been for the CPS to have concluded that there wasn't sufficient evidence to secure a conviction, and for the FA to rule on it instead as per Suarez. I'm concerned that the media scrutiny will intensify and cause some players to become distracted from the job in hand.
On the other hand, this is a watershed moment for people who because of race, creed or nationality suffer discrimination and ridicule in less high profile situations; for the greater good.

 

The FA will still do their own investigating and will probably give a similar outcome as the Suarez case.
