And we are developing a quality midfield, couple more players and we'll have a midfield "squad" to really consolidate in the pl . Before anyone goes mental I mean summer signing more than enough strength to survive this season
Look at the late 80's & early 90's for something that equates to that. A team full of unknowns but they were a team, and a bloody good team at that. On the other side of the coin - QPR bought recognised names (Even some International players will full caps) in August and in theory should have been far better than Norwich in the first 5 months of the season but they were not

lol, check out Wickham on the Telly!! Hope he plays Wednesday. he did EVER so well when he played us last time actually, I'm a bit worried now.
I don't even know what we are trying to debate here. Its a pointless thread. Norwich are clearly hands down a better club than us atm and we clearly have the better history by a long shot. Things look good for you atm and not so good for us but things can change very quickly, we get a couple of defensive reinforcements. It would be interesting to see what would happen if Lambert were to leave, he is clearly a class act but if a bigger club come calling it could have a pretty negative affect on yourselves. As for the youngsters, I'm not so sure about this. We have a great record for producing young talent better than yourselves and I know we harp on about it but young talent will look at the history of a club developing young talent. Look at Crewe for example they still produce alot of young talent.
The team of the early 90s was entirely different. Many of the current players are punching above their weight. The defence looks shaky at times but certainly solid enough, particularly with Ruddy behind them. There are goals in the team and when in possession City are a good passing unit. The problem is the real cutting edge to break sides down. At this moment they are on the whole a set of good Championship standard players moulded to cope well at Premier League level. But there are no Bellamys, Adams, Dempseys, Van Der Vaarts, Da Silvas or defenders like Shawcross and Huth at Stoke - or even anywhere close to start talking about competing in the long run. QPR have very different problems. If you signed three or four players of genuine calibre to go with the handful that are already there then I would start to be concerned.
Hi Hampy, that is a line I read many times and not just about our team and I am pretty sure it is over-used and sometimes incorrect. Most of our team, as you know, are young and have come through from the lower leagues. Who is to say they have never had the potential to be very, very good players even at the highest level? It could be they just have not had the opportunity to show their worth before for a number of reasons, being part of a poor team, poor management and/or tactics and if they are defenders or midfield players that do not score frequent goals they tend to be overlooked and rarely mentioned in the media. From outside it may well look like they are punching above their weight but perhaps they are now, under good management showing what they are capable of on a weekly basis. Swansea have a few of these little gems in their side too, they have also come up from the lower leagues so I am not just saying all this because it's about our players. There are players in the lower leagues who can perform at a much higher level given the chance. PL & BR have seen this and made the most of it while other teams are spending big money on names and reputations.
You say we don't have a cutting edge to break teams down - I think the fact that ONLY the top 5 and Blackburn (???) have scored more goals than us, tells a different story. You have a history of making yourself look like a fool!
Actually, I sort of agree with you hampy: Those are all areas that can, and will (assuming we stay in the PL this season) be improved. Howson is the first step in that direction. We need another stronger defensive midfielder as well. However, look at our current level of performance, which is great, but with a few addtions, we can easily become firmly established in the PL. And with no young players wanting to go to Ipswich (no academy) the future is yellow.
You have good players, no doubt about that but the main thing for me about your team is balance. Lambert is exceptional at building a team that compliments each other with a great balance. You have decent players but if they were to leave your club and play for another team I'm not sure they would really stand out. There are few players who are great individually in your team but as a unit you are very good. Thats why really your success depends on Lambert staying with you for a very long time.
Red - Possibly right but cannot say you are 100% right or 100% wrong. Some players seem to fit in a certain teams, do well and move on only to become a major flop at their new club. Football history is littered with them. Others move on and become better, so often it's a gamble for both the player and the new club Black - Can not argue with that, it will be a hell of a job replacing him when the time comes
Not sure that's totally true, itfcptc. If you look at Swansea, a lot of the grass roots groundwork, recruitment etc was done by Martinez. Rodgers has kept it going, but he inherited the nucleus of a decent squad playing football on the floor. Lambert, by complete contrast inherited a shambolic outfit who had lost 1 -7 to Colchester United Very different set of criteria, I'm sure you'll agree.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipswich_town#Honours Sorry, I see now. You meant the Suffolk Senior Cup in 1899/1900.
We won the thing that you lot bottled in Cardiff in 2004! Norwich went to Cardiff in the Play Off cup The game went to penalties and Such he ****ed it up! Now Such he is a scummer, he weares a scummer's hat When he missed that Penalty, he looked a ****ing TWAT!
