Hey fellas, have a dilemma and hope someone can help Basically I bought a house which has a side bit and garage with a flat roof, There is a leak (quite bad) in the garage and the side bit climbed up there and found that a bit of the roof has been stripped and only a single under layer of breathable felt put on, no topping layers The woodwork seems ok, although wet and will have to replaster/board the side bit However the question is that since I have bought the house to do up and sell, would putting felt on top of the felt with say some bitumen adhesice be enough? or any suggestions for a cheap repair I can do myself? cheers in advance
i build bridges accross the tyne and as you can imagine know a fair amount about substandard workmanship. what you need to do is stop being such a cheap bastard and ask a professional for advice. I would be willing to help but i doubt your god would approve.
DIY is a false economy in the main. Obviously you're not living there so you're ust trying to maximise your profit but there are some things best left to a professional. I loathe ****ers who try and bodge ****. Pay for a roofer and stop being such a tight ****. That won't even cost much to put right, and can be built into your sale price.
I agree with you in one sense. Tbh nothing i hate more than a bodge job. My first ever house belonged to an ex diy enthusiast, and he must have been **** as I was forever putting things right This is gonna sound silly (considering the OP) but I actually try and do a proper job once I get the info. I want to do this in the main to learn on the job I am getting quotes off a couple of roofers, last time i had a roofer do some work I had to fix it myself I have built sheds etc before and one the felting and they are still going strong, I dont skimp on materials. I do shop around as in why pay £50 for a pair of Adidas when the same ones can be bought for £35 on amazon etc. Alos one thing i hate more than bodge jobs is tradesmen taking the piss, as in 'the whole lot needs replacing, £2000 should do it'
Fan, if you do live in stoke, just buy some Oatcakes, throw them up there, leave for 2 days, then chuck some cheese on. ****ing sorted
Strip the old felt off and if the ply under is marine ply reuse it, if it's not, replace it.Then call in the roofers to re felt it.They be done in half a day.
HMMMM oatcakes. Used to get some from Sneyd Oatcakes on hanley road, or there used to be a shop years ago on the way to shelton near the old Jaguar garage Also when I worked in Longton High school there was an old lady who had a hole in the wall hatch thing from which she sold outcakes, basically out of her back garden kids used to get them at dinner time as did I also there was that place called 'hole in the wall' near steadman street Unfortunately it wont sort my roof, as (and I am trying to fit in now) all the asians have taken over and opened pizza shops and as a man of th eworld like you knows, italian food looks good but no substance Its not waterproof either This racism things easy
TBH I had to do it when I did it, and knew the daytime crowd would in general (1 or 2 exceptions) give what has gone on above However I think some of the evening crew are usually quite good. I have learnt a lot anyway over time
**** them Fan.Do as above. At the end of the day this is a faceless forum and we have all day to day lives to live.
