When a team wins a championship I think it is fair to say a slice of luck always plays a part. Brighton last year were nicking last minute goals last year and had barely any injuries. This year we have been decimated by injuries and have had countless dubious decisions against us. Watching west ham today ( and bear in mind their how fortunate they have been ) they definitely have the luck factor.
I agree. Definitely a foul on the keeper, however they were down to ten men and millwall never put them under any pressure! At least Nolan will be suspended against us.
Almost every team suffers from injuries. It wasn't long ago that West Ham themselves had an injury and suspension list longer their arms. As for late goals, well matches are 90 minutes long (plus injury time), not 88 minutes. Without late goals Norwich wouldn't have been promoted last season and United would probably have one or two fewer titles. Generally class or fitness will tell in the end, even if it's only 30 seconds before the final whistle.
In football as in life, you get what you deserve and you deserve what you get. There's no point talking about how you had more shots on target when you didn't put them in, or that the ref gave a dodgy goal against you when you missed three good chances yourself. A home win against Millwall won't be the result that seals top spot for West Ham, so there's no point getting too upset about it, just be happy that their captain and most expensive midfielder will be out for our visit.
You also can't compare our whole season with one (or two, or three) of West Ham's games. Yes they got a very fortunate decision today, but who is to say that they haven't had a countless number of strong penalty appeals, for example, turned down this season? Without having watched them week in, week out, we can't comment. Whoever wins the title will have deserved it, just like Brighton deserved it last season.
No, there isn't. It's a concept invented by people to describe an event which appears to be out of anyone's control and seems fortuitous, but in reality is the product of a series of events just like everything else; just a series of events which we've been unable to detect due to our limited capacities as physical beings.
No,you're wrong. What about when Sunderland scored that crazy goal against Liverpool when a beach ball blowed onto the pitch and the football hit it and it changed direction? We couldn't detected something like this. What about in plane crashes, when some people survive and others don't,of course luck exists.
They were lucky to have beaten Millwall. A poor refereeing decision ( common place in the championship ) won it for them. That's not to say it does not even itself over the course of the season but the fact is they are now a further 3 points above us.
Err no, I'm the kind of person who has Jews as grandparents. I'm also the kind of person who understands science. This is just basic string theory.
It wasn't pre-determined,it all depend on the strenght of the gust of wind and it's direction to the change the direction of the beach ball.
