I'm not sure he does to be honest. He is clear favourite but what has he actually achieved at club level and does he have the experience? He's managed two small midtable London clubs and got them punching above their weight and left Portsmouth to FA Cup glory before bankrupting them but we're talking about a guy with almost no knowledge of the continental game.

I don't support England so couldn't care less but I think Roy Hodgson would be the perfect candidate, he can speak numerous languages and has forgotten more about International Football than 'Arry will ever know.

I wouldn't blame Redknapp for leaving. It's a big opportunity to move on to bigger and better things that can't be passed up. Sol Campbell understood this before he joined Arsenal but I fear Redknapp is stepping into the unknown and way out of his comfort zone.

Managing a couple of small midtable London clubs doesn't necessarily mean you will hit the ground running at international level. They'd be much better off appointing someone who has at least had experience of managing big clubs in England and has experience i.e Mourinho, Wenger, Hodgson etc.

Thoughts on this fellow Blues? I'm looking forward to hearing the views of Chelsea fans on this thread <ok>

If it comes down to an English manager then he's easily the best choice.

Don't get me wrong it would me a massive step up for 'Arry and he'd rellish it, but if you wind back the clock this almost reminds me of Hoddle before the 96 Euro's. <ok>

At his age he has never got to manage a big club so I wouldn't at all begrudge him the opportunity to manage the national team just wanted to get views on this, from those that support England in particular.

I think he's worth a punt and to me the England manager should be English.

Over on the Spurs board they're on about Mourinho replacing him <yikes>.

Honestly though I don't think old 'arry will leave Spurs in the form they're currently in. I think Stuart Pearce will be the caretaker manager until mid may and then 'arry will take over from there. Whether he'll be a good manager or not is the real question, personally I think the England job requires good man management and motevational qualities, both of which 'arry has in abundence.

They can't be talking about Jose? Surely? <laugh> Even for Spuds that is seriously deluded.

He'd only go to a big club with ambition that could realistically win the title, other than back to Chelsea I couldn't see him going anywhere outside Manchester or Liverpool.

I think Redknapp might do okay, but the big worry is people expecting him to work miracles and win England World Cups, Euros etc which isn't going to happen.

Nope, I don't think anyone would disagree. I could see the point Carragher was making about hiring a foreign manager "cheating". It's one of the big problems I have with a lot of the African nations.

    It's trending on Twitter <laugh>

HIAG must be cumming with enjoyment.

Roman was in training today again, AVB said it was to 'discuss next years plans', anyone believe that? because I certainly don't!

Mourinho will be at City if Mancini somehow manages to balls this season up (which he kind of has by dropping out of 3 trophies, 2 of which they were expected to breeze) or Chelsea IF AVB is given the old nudge.

On the basis that England SHOULD have an English manager, then look no further than Harry! However, if this makes it a strong possibility that the Special one ends up at the Spuds, Roman needs to get in there and beat them to it!

Having said that, I've just heard it being bandied about that Jose, who's flagged up he's on his way from Real, may well be an England contender as well!

Got to be Redknapp for 2 reasons: -

    Best Englishman for the job
Leaves Spurs without their best manager in god knows how long.

    They call that win win.

With his penchant for screwing money illegally out of people he'd be more suited to fund raising for them.

I might be being a tad contreversial (spelling) here.

For me Redknapp is hands down the best manager for England.. He manages to go to mediocre club to mediocre club and turn those clubs into something they arent through his management, tactics and signings... Granted International football is different from domestic football but when you strip it down to the bare bones. Football is football. I dont think anyone can deny Harry is a world class manager/coach. He has and i think 90% will disagree turned Spurs into a top PL club. Regardless of how bad everyone else plays or luck or refs etc etc. They are 4th and going strong, he also done a good job at Portsmouth.

If Harry leaves Spurs will suffer next season. And with the FFP i dont think spurs is the ridiculous choice everyone thinks for Jose. Wherever he goes he wont be able to spend his traditional 100mil + so in my opinion the doors wide open for a lot of teams. Spurs could raise the wage structure if they needed and not make massive losses. Football is unpredicatable. and i would put money on Jose not coming to debt ridden PL cause he wont join a club where he cant spend big... which is what he does...

I hope we keep Boas if not just for the reputation of chelsea.... Its embarassing to chop and change every season there abouts.

Spurs fan in peace - Harry has shown he is a good club manager but look back over recent years and you can see that being a good club manager is no guarantee for success at International level - go back 20 year and Graham Taylor was widely hailed as the "English" manager to lead us to glory but his lack of international experience made him a poor national manager. As another poster here pointed out - at least Roy Hodson has some experience overseas.

To me the England managers job is a poison chalice and no-one will succeed - we expect too much from our sub standard players
