the initials fa sum it up, why did the fa sack the england captain without consulting capello, small wonder fabio is pissed off and goes to the italian press. small wonder he walks from the england job. now who will replace him. am i the only one who does not think redknap is the right man he is an excellent premier manager, but i cannot see him lasting long with the calibre of the present fa. what is wanted for 4 months is a caretaker manager.

my favourite is stuart pearce assisted by ray clemmence, so two inside coaching staff from the fa. they know the squad and may prove to be more than caretakers

Perhaps Pearce could get promoted, seems to be liked by the under 21s.

Shearer might be poking aroiunnd too?

    Atcham,
I have to disagree with you about the FA. Terry has always been an accident waiting to happen and Capello blundered badly when he reappointed him. I am not even sure Terry is worth his place in the squad as he has lost his pace and that is vital in international football. To have him as captain with those allegations hanging over him would have been very divisive within the squad and that issue would have made dominated press conferences. I think the FA acted correctly - they were Capello's employers and had the right to do what they did. Capello has mostly done OK as England manager but the showing in the World Cup was an absolute shambles and he was lucky to keep his job after that.

I would question whether Terry will play internationally beyond this year.

Did Capello improve the England squad in his time as manager?

In all this, Terry has not shown one tiny modicum of intelligence. The England captain is a figurehead and, knowing this, he should have resigned because of the charge hanging over him. Even if he is proved innocent it would have been a distraction leading up to the World Cup. Cappello is also a fool for not recognising this.Maybe another Italian to desert a sinking ship. On this occasion the FA are spot on.

Harry for caretaker up to the World Cup and only if he does well should he be appointed permanently.

Do we want someone who 'can barely write' and has bank accounts with six figure sums in his dog's name leading the England squad?

now do not get me wrong, terry would not be in my squad, let alone captain. yes capello made a mistake bringing terry back, but the least the fa could do was to meet with their manager and discuss terry being relieved of his captaincy. if terry had any nowse or bottle he would have walked last october

some more names inthe hat possibly.

sir trevor brooking caretaker assisted by david beckham and prince william

    terry vennables and ray winstone

more serious money is on roy hodgson and neil warnock

when was the last successful premier league manager a success with england

    sir alf ramsey?

Bobby Robson and Terry Venables did reasonably well. In fact far better than our expensive foreign imports.

IMO Harry Redknapp is the outstanding candidate followed by Mourinho and maybe even Hiddink to take over on a full time basis. I just hope Pearce does NOT get the job, he has a decent record with the U21's in friendlies and qualifying but he was way out of his depth when playing in the tournaments itself

    Atcham,
Good point about the lack of consultation - I suspect the FA were quite happy to see Capello walk , especially with the lack of compensation for a resignation as opposed to an expensive sacking.

Capello told an Italian paper "the eenglish anglo-saxon mentality of innocent until proven guilty wasn't shown by the FA" and he is dead right. Whatever they were going to do they should have had the courtesy to discuss it with him (even if he had no say in the matter)

No to both from me. Warnock's level is the Championship- simple as. Having watched Roy's WBA twice this season he is not the answer either. Both games were drab. AS for 'Arry, do we really want his blotchy red face as the nation's flagship? For me he's not really done a job without buckets of cash- just look at Pompey. Why do people think they went into meltdown once he left? Again, at Spurs, he's got his entire own team and regardless of how much he spent on them he hasn't shown me the ability to man-manage the best out of others. But you are English are hardly spoilt for much eh? :emoticon-0105-wink:
