Experience in what? He's our number one goalkeeper and is absolutely nailed on in his position. When push come to shove the captain shakes hands at the start, tosses the coin and **** all else.

I think Parker would be burdened unneccessarily by it.

Ya, but one mistake from hart and they will eat him alive. Think he has the shoulders for it but you can see where they would want to keep him in good vein of form for many years before giving him that honor.

Ok, well if it has to go to a senior player then, as I said in #16479, Gerrard is likely to be a happier player if Lampard, Terry aren't around so let it go to him.

Not true - the skipper needs to be able to jolly the troops up when the chips are down and raise their morale when they're under pressure. He needs to represent the player to the ref as the only other person present when the ref is giving the player a card or a talking to. In that position, he has to give wise counsel and keep a level head (which is why Rooney should go nowhere near the captaincy ever...).

Its a glib response to say it doesn't matter any more, but while in the greater scheme of things every man stepping onto that field should be able to account for his own actions, each of those men is also an individual and some will need more support than others...

I think, from what I've been able to glean elsewhere, and from watching him, that Parker would make a good skipper for England...

    experience in the following areas;

    1. bunging tickets to the lads (i'm serious guys bitch and moan every game to get tickets handed over)

    2. press conferences regularly as captain. not the same as being dragged along once by manager

    3. press scrutiny (see his gaff)

    4. being the guy who settles small disputes between lads ebfore the manager hears of it... like who bloody glued my boots to the floor ****.

    5. Being the voice with the ref and on the pitch... look i'd agree it aint like rugby here and they all should be big boys and all....

there is actually a lot that goes on unseen and not the least of it is handling out bloody match tickets and such and posing for bloody pics with FA hangers on when all you want to be doing is sitting i nthe dressing room focusing.

when you've someone like oh barry wanting 10 tickets for his mates and the fa guy is hadning them all to you and then you hand 6 to barry and 4 to the quiet kid i nthe corner who wanted his dad to come and hasn't piped up yet but will feel bad etc etc etc It all distracts...... you have to be able to handle it, get focused and play your own game.

ridiculous stuff but there you go.

plus then theres the players negoitations, who represents the players in how much money goes to them etc, they all want a say etc... it sall mad and unseen stuff.

i think it definitely is... he says the same things without the bile toward united, everything he says about liverpool and his blind support of their **** players.. perhaps he lost his virginity afterall he mentioned he had a girlfriend.. and maybe that has released his pent up anger toward united.. but he is still obsessed by us..

Why, you think there's only one Liverpool fan who gives blind support to their **** players and hates Utd? ;)

Didn't Utd / SAF also make a large donation to the Hillsborough fund back in 1996? But neither club acknowledged it until a couple of months ago cos they didn't want it to turn into a rivalry thing.

TBF Swarbs SAF,Bryan Robson and Martin Edwards attended some of the funerals.

The rivalry thing evaporates any good work or feelings between the clubs.

Not amongst genuine fans. It's only the sad ****s who spout racism, chant about the disasters or whine about conspiracies etc that can't accept that both are great clubs with great histories and great traditions.

Fortunately they are very firmly in the minority <ok>
