Not to many seem to come for the love of the game, with money being the main objective...

But this fella seems have a real liking for the area...

    So fair play to him...

And all my fellow Mackems wondering why i have posted this also on our board..Easy really.

Is there any foreign player you thought would have stayed longer, or can you see any doing so..

Honestly thought Bolo would have stayed to go onto a coaching role...

Same question applies to all the Mags......any?

SOUTH Shields appear to have been beaten in their audacious bid to sign Peruvian superstar Nobby Solano by fellow Northern League side Newcastle Benfield.

The Mariners hit the headlines on transfer deadline day by revealing they wanted to bring the former Newcastle United star to Filtrona Park.

However, Benfield say Solano will coach their side as he looks to develop a career away from playing.

A statement from Benfield said: “Newcastle Benfield Football Club can announce today the appointment of former Newcastle United star Nolberto Solano as first team coach.

“Solano, 37, won 95 caps for his native Peru during his glittering career, in which he played for clubs such as Boca Juniors, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, West Ham United and Leicester City amongst others, is studying for his UEFA “A” and “B” coaching licences, and sees joining Benfield as a major help in achieving his coaching goals.

“A resident of the city, Solano has taken the opportunity to work at Benfield, who after Newcastle United, are the most prominent club in Newcastle upon Tyne in the Football Association’s pyramid system.”

Benfield’s chairman and local businessman Jimmy Rowe said: “I am delighted that we have been able to attract such a big name from the city to help us move forward.

“I believe that Nobby’s experiences in the game will bring benefit to our players and manager, and that he can gain the necessary hands on experience in helping him achieve his coaching badges. We see it very much as a win-win situation.”

What a ridiculously racist title to even suggest that people consider foreign players to be money grabbers! What planet are you on? I mean i get people who say foreigners dive more, that's a stereotype based on an element of truth but most footballers are the same, if you actually think foreigners are money grabbers consider sessegnon took a pay cut to join us, bent ran as soon as he got offered a bigger wage

We've also still got Olly Bernard living locally, helps the new French lads out and I think he owns a cafe.

Mendieta still lives in Yarm too, so maybe the issue is simply that no one wants to live in Sunderland...

Yet you just admitted you agree foreign players dive....stereotype eh?

You then choose to use Bent as an example...but ignored Gyan...

I'm a racist..............you need to sort yourself and think before you can insinuate that. How come the thread is about Solano and the good he is doing?

    Yeah pack it in Pattheracist.

Seriously. What has happened to our country? When did we become such a bunch of oversensitive, PC ****wits?

I want to move somewhere sensible away from this crazy ass society we're cultivating.

To be honest I did think the title was silly (and surely only Paul Ince still believes that English players don't dive?) but not worth getting worked up about.

Point is though Colly, the remark is in no way racist. Xeneophobic at a push but only if you are blinkered. Most footballers are greedy ****s, but to pretend we didn't have an onset of foreign players invade our shores for the cash in the early PL years is ignoring the truth. There were loads that came ot finish their career on a bumper contract. Some performed, some just picked up the cash. This has played its part in the spiralling wage demands and our home based players following suit with agents demanding level footing with the supposed foreign superstars when we realised we weren't only getting the top class ones, but the ones on a free ride who were no better than the players they were replacing.

Edit: Not to mention he is posting an article to dispel these kinds of stereotypes. And given their recent experiences with Gyan is it any wodner they might be suspicious of superstar foreign talent?

Then you get the good one's like Solano....who this was originally about...but hey ho..guess that's not interesting these day with the way society seems to have gone there...

Reminds me of why i'm in no rush to return.

    Really good post Pouch.

Please don't let this thread turn into a slanging match. Commachio is in no way racist. His thread title is actually challenging the stereotypical view of some people.

Actually now doing the opposite of what was intended by it orignally because it is now deepening the divide as the word racist is misused.

Belated attempt to return to topic.

I love that Solano and Bernard have made this place home.

I'd like to think that perhaps Cabaye, or Tiote, or Ba might be beginning to feel the same. Tiote reportedly rejected, or said that he would reject, a move to Chelsea. The other two have made the right noises, a bit more convincingly than most.

It would be lovely to think. I dare say it'll depend how we progress and who comes a knocking. Gone are the days where we can expect the club to knock back Real Madrid offers for Solano.

If we can give Europe a serious push this season, and if no one really huge comes in with an offer, then a couple of seasons more and they may be hooked. Never know.

Julio Arca's still in the area, and seems to have taken to it in a big way.

But I'd like to ask what people think about this whole 'greedy bastard' thing (regardless of club). Are these guys really to be condemned when you see threads entitled 'Another legend sells his medals'? Players are a long time retired, y'know, and I think they're very wise to make every buck they can while they can. I've nothing bad to say about Bent, Gyan, Henderson and (Newcatle fans please nominate your own examples here). I wish Bent was still at Sunderland, sure, but he got a better offer and I wish the lad luck. I hope he goes to the Euros this summer and plays stormer after stormer. I'll be rooting for him.

I don't want to see players who did well for us (either club) having to sell their little off-license business on Durham Rd to make a bit of brass for his family - like Len Shackleton had to do. It's a sad sort of retirement for players who were that good, isn't it? When you see the Tommy Smith auction coming up, can you really blame lads who follow the money? I can't.

Pardew nailing his comments to the mast will certainly can't have hurt his chances of instilling some loyalty into his playing staff.

It's no surprise that the player who truly took to this club, took to it when it was on a high - Beresford, Rob Lee, Sir Les, Tino, Ginola etc. from Keegan era, Solano, Speed, Bernard, Dabizaz from Sir Bobby's.

At the minute, we're on the up, and whilst European football this season will give an undoubted boost, a simple bit of 'above average' (top 7/8) consistency would do wonders for us!
