Newcastle United Already Getting To Martin O’Neill
BY ALAN CLAY ON TUESDAY 6TH MARCH 2012

The embarrassing conduct of the sunderland manager after the match has been almost as entertaining as Shola’s injury time intervention.

Having been in the mackem job for all of two minutes, Martin O’Neill is already showing all the usual signs of cracking up in the face of living in the shadow of Newcastle United.

After the trampy behaviour O’Neill showed on Sunday including refusing to hang around for the usual post-match drink with the opposing manager and falsely accusing Newcastle United staff of trying to influence the referee at half-time, today O’Fool called a special press conference to tell the world….sunderland are much better than Newcastle and the black & whites were really nasty to his players. That’s it.

Here is the Wearside comedian’s ‘professional’ opinion….

“I find it extraordinary that sort of interpretation (Pardew accusing them of being dirty mackems) has been put on the game.

How anyone could say we were the dirty side is beyond me.

The first two fouls in the game came inside the first three minutes and they were ours, but the next seven fouls over the next quarter-of-an-hour were all from the opposition.

At half-time, I think we went in with two yellows and Newcastle with four.

We also felt that there were a few yellow card decisions in there that Newcastle were lucky to get away with, so how anyone could say we were the dirty side is beyond me.

I was very proud of my players. We won the first half, had the best chance before the hour in the second-half and then held out successfully for half-an-hour with just 10 men.

It was terribly unfortunate that we conceded in injury-time, but I don’t think anyone could argue that we weren’t the better side on the day.

Well, I say I don’t think so – but it wouldn’t surprise me if someone tried”.

So the mackems aren’t dirty but had two players sent off and somebody booked within the first 30 seconds, their captain who ran directly at Tiote and launched himself at the man while ignoring the ball. You would have to be naive in the extreme to believe the captain’s manager had no part in that.

As for O’Fool claiming they were the better team on the day, I think somebody had better sack the person on the BBC Sport website who has the job of counting things…. 24 shots to 7, 57% possession to 43% and 19 corners to 4, as well as a penalty saved and a header against the crossbar. You’d think he was mental or something….

Well it didn’t take plastic Geordie Steve Bruce very long to feel the pressure and now O’Fool will be dusting down his record collection for our next visit to mackemland (if he hangs around until then…); Madness with ‘You’re An Embarrassment’ seems to fit nicely.

This fantastically sums up O'neil and the derby in general. Even 5under1and fans must be embarrassed with this joker. What a fool, eh <laugh>

Lost a lot of respect for O'Neil after the Derby.

Thought Pardew acted like a right **** when we won the penalty, but at least he admitted that he was a tit in his post-match interview.

O'Neil is a disgrace, insinuating that we got the referee to fix the game (with absolutely no evidence forthcoming) is classless. Unlike Pardew, he is yet to give an apology, even after the ref came out and proved him wrong. That says a lot about the man.

To be fair, O'Neill usually takes the moral high ground in ese kind of situations and just let's things be, however he is clearly pissed off about it, and can't stop ranting about it.

He'll be successful with Sunderland(8-12) but the name will mean he will struggle to go any further. He's wound up and certainly understands the derby now, and it's clear that in the next one he will be doing his best to murder us, which could well be his downfall.

O'Niell is a far better manager than Bruce and previously I would have said a lot more about him, but he has shown the exact signs that Bruce did after the game. Sunderland constantly get wound up, just look at their red card record, we'll see if O'Niell can control that or gets sucked in.

I suppose they were probably fair. He tries really hard to be unbiased regarding Newcastle and you can tell that he wasn't saying what he wanted to say. He remained fair and unbiased though which I suppose he has to doing the job he is doing. I agreed with what he said about 5under1and being the better team first half and the game plan of defending in numbers with Cattermole just in front of the back 4 was effective and I think Shearer highlighted that.

Being totally honest and unbiased I'd say 5under1ands game plan of defending and kicking our players off the field was effective and they took there chance to score. Personally I'm not a fan of managers who set there teams up to kick the opposition and draw the opposition into that sort of ugly game but it worked so credit where credit is due. However for O'niel to the completely deny everything that happened is just ridiculous. Accusing us of cheating at half time ! Then saying we were worse on the foul front despite statistics showing otherwise, despite that O'neils game plan was to kick us and despite that Cattermole set the tone of the game is all completely ludicrous.

I hoestly wish Super Mart had not given any interview if I am being honest but I can slightly understand why he did. Yes of course I expect all the black and whites to be giving it blah blah blah....its your duty!!! lol

But take the glasses off Pardew should have said what it was a bloody tough game played by TWO agressive teams wanting to win instead of trying to make out his lot were saints on the pitch and all we did was kick. I LOVED it what a game and I sat watching it all unfold at the SOL in the black cats bar through the gaps in my fingers bloody great stuff. For the first time in a long long time I saw a Sunderland team willing to fight abd give it their all. I also saw a Newcastle team who thought **** you ....you wanna fight well were up for it aswell.

Then I saw two managers giving it what for on the touch line, opposing players celebrating goals fans going off their heads bloody fantastic stuff.

O'neill or Pardew should not lose any respect if anything we as fans should LOVE the fact our yes OUR managers CARE and are willing to show they do for the clubs they represent.

Ha way the lads and heres to next years derbys i bloody hope there as good as the last one!!!

You must shake at the thought of one Ameobi nearing retirement and another one coming through the ranks?
