    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/2011/0...n-ban-over-sectarian-chanting-86908-23043583/

RANGERS fans are set to be hammered with a three-match Euro ban for singing sectarian songs.
Last night Ibrox chiefs were also bracing themselves for a "heavy" fine which could be as much as £100,000.
And there are now also fears that UEFA's determination to clamp down on Rangers' bigots could further delay, if not derail entirely, Craig Whyte's £25 million buy-out.
UEFA have told Rangers to expect the penalties because of sectarian songs and chants which the governing body claim were belted out during the Europa League match against PSV in Eindhoven on March 10.
The Ibrox club have until next Thursday to submit their defence - the hearing will be held in Nyon two weeks later - if they are to have any chance of avoiding a FOURTH European sanction.
But a UEFA source, who confirmed Gers had been pulled up again, also said it was unlikely the club could escape punishment.
Rangers only discovered they were in trouble yesterday and when contacted by Record Sport, beleaguered chief executive Martin Bain spoke of his "utter dismay".
But he stressed the Ibrox club would be defending their position "vigorously".
Rangers will try once again to convince UEFA they have done all they can to rid themselves of the bigots but it is almost certain all their fans will be banned from the next three away matches in Europe.
The club were fined £13,000 for discriminatory chanting and £9,000 for an attack on Villarreal's team bus in 2006.
UEFA also demanded they pay £8,280 after a UEFA Cup tie against Osasuna in March 2007 with the Spanish club receiving a £31,000 fine because of poor organisation.
Then, in November 2009, the club were fined £18,000 after a Champions League match against Unirea Urziceni in Romania. Again the home side were also fined (£7,200) for poor organisation.
A UEFA spokesman said last night: "For this kind of behaviour and the number of offences which is repeated the fine could be heavy - as much as 150,000 Swiss francs."
Bain said: "We are utterly dismayed to be informed by UEFA that they are to take disciplinary action. We will defend the club's position vigorously.
"UEFA have made clear in any previous disciplinary hearings that sanctions have been mitigated by the extensive work the club does to tackle sectarianism.
"We are not saying there is not a problem but we are saying that for many years we have made strenuous attempts to address it. We do, however, believe it is absurd to think only Rangers supporters sing offensive or sectarian songs. We are left to conclude there is a disproportionate focus on us.
"It has also become clear there are people who have been determined to undermine our club at any cost and have constantly lobbied for action against Rangers."
Rangers can point to their Euro record this season which will show five trips with no arrests for sectarian or discriminatory behaviour. They will also point out that they've been given a clean bill of health all season from delegates and security officers who have been specifically briefed by UEFA to look out for sectarian singing.
It is also believed they have letters from Greater Manchester Police and the British Vice Consul in Valencia praising behaviour.
The club will also question UEFA over whether or not they act on reports submitted by people other than official delegates and police but stress they won't be attempting to say they aren't tracked around Europe by morons.
This deranged and also dangerous element have refused to believe UEFA were prepared to take more serious action but they are now about to experience that reality.
The man trying to buy Rangers from David Murray will also have been given a reality check. Last week Whyte discovered there was an outstanding tax bill of almost £3m and now he finds the club he wants to own is in big bother with UEFA.
Should Whyte say, "no thanks" the consequences for Rangers could be much more serious than anything UEFA might throw at them.

My suspicions were first aroused when I looked at the by-line and saw the article was written by a Mr. James Traynor. I then read the bit about a £100,000 fine endangering a multi-million pound deal. I'm afraid this is the usual sensationalist nonsense we've come to expect from this hack.

I'd agree with that, but doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

The Rangers fans who sing these songs are going to cost the club big time unless they stop acting like kids and see what they are doing to the club and it's decent fans.

If I were Bain, I'd tell the fans that we are not accepting briefs for Rangers away games and ban the support for a season.

    Won't happen though.

I agree with you Edge but my point was that had John Reid or Peter Lawell uttered these words the claims of paranoia would have rung throughout the land. anyway, that's a seperate issue.

As for Bain, he can say what he wants about the efforts Rangers have made but it is crystal clear those efforts have been too little and too late. The old song book has gradually crept back in amongst the Ibrox faithful and that is down to some of the half hearted attempts made by the hierarchy to suppress these songs. A case in point was when Rangers were told the Famine song WAS sectarian, Rangers response via Bain? He "Suggested" it would be better if fans did not sing it to avoid getting themselves in trouble.

That's hardly laying down the law or even really tackling the problem head on is it?

The Hibs fans were singing the Famine song last night according to 606ers.

Wonder if the Celtic fans will phone the consulate to complain, or won't they bother because they won?

I wonder if Rebelbhoy will be calling them racist monkeys?

Bain and Rangers can't do any more, the only option left is to refuse away tickets for all games until they half-wits within our support see the bigger picture.

    Didn't hear it Edge.

Rangers could have done more and you as a support could do more. Bottom line.

Rangers can't do any more other than what I've already said.

What about the Hibs fans singing the "racist" Famine song.

Here is a club called Hibernian, telling Celtic fans to go home?

    Why?

I never heard it Edge. i already told you that. Let me go away and investigate and I will get back to you. Is that ok?

Rangers can do plenty more. Rangers supporters could do plenty more. I asked the question on here and nobody seemed particularly bothered about doing anything. Well maybe now you might.

Rangers and Bain could do a damned sight more Edge, for starters they could admit the Famine song is Racist and condemn it, they have never done so as I have already said.

Rangers chief executive Martin Bain has reiterated the club's commitment to combat racist behaviour following concerns over the 'Famine song'.
Bain also said the Ibrox club was frustrated that its supporters were being singled out while similar chants by fans at other clubs escape censure.

In a statement released on the club website, Bain urged Rangers fans not to sing the song or they could face the prospect of prosecution.
But he expressed unhappiness that other Scottish clubs were not being scrutinised in the same way by the authorities.
"Clearly some supporters feel aggrieved that a song they believe to be no more than a tit-for-tat 'wind up' of Celtic supporters should be singled out in this way and merit the attention of police, governments and anti-racism organisations," said Bain.

"In recent times, the absence of sanction or attention directed at any other club supports the contention that this is very much a one-way street.

"This is despite the best efforts of this club to highlight such issues in constructive discussion with the relevant authorities."
He added: "The club shares supporters' frustration that offensive and wholly unacceptable songs such as those 'celebrating' the Ibrox disasters or inciting death threats to our players are sung by supporters of other clubs on a regular basis with little or no comment or reprimand from any quarter.

"The club also believes that the issue of unacceptable conduct and anti-social behaviour at football matches has at times been used by individuals or groups to pursue their own agendas and there have been instances of this in the recent past."
Bain said that the club had discussed the singing of the 'Famine song' with police and warned fans that they could face arrest if they continued to sing it.

Is it any wonder that some Gers fan continue to sing this song when Bain's response was so absolutely pathetic?

    You ****s are ****ing idiots.

Ok the Famine song, Rangers fans started singing it, because they wanted the UK Government to ethnically cleanse Scotland of all Irish Catholics.

And now, it's spread to the East, with Hibs fans singing it too.

We really shouldn;t ahve song it, it's now spread all over Scotland.

Scots now want the Irish catholic division to be rounded up and deported.

Why didn't you stop this Bain... WHY!?!?!?

Edge is doing a Follow Follow. He heard a rumour that Hibs fans sung the famine song on 606 now he's going to ram it down our throats as fact until half of the hunnish fraternity spout it as absolute fact. Even if it is true it still doesn't make it tasteful nor politically correct to tell everyone of Irish decent in Scotland to go home. If I sung the Plantation is over, why don't you go home to the million British people who live in the north of Ireland, and don't see themselves as Irish I'd be rightly seen as a bigot.

Just like Neil Lennon is a bigot, because he once said 'Orange bastard' to an unnamed person in an unnamed location who's granny posts on Follow Follow.

Come on now Mick, to be fair it was a professional lip-reader who saw him say it to the Rangers bench.
