There are only a few legal firms in Scotland who specialise in sports law, all have a "connection" (albeit a tenous one) to Celtic and /or Rangers i'd hazard.
I just think it would have caused less hassle and less pages of this thread if they had appointed one that didn't have a testimonial from an SPL chairman, I would go as far to say it would be common sense.
No - I get your point, but I fail to see how that's more important than professional expertise. As pointed out earlier, every law firm in Scotland that specialise in sports law has "connections" to Rangers, Celtic, the SPL or all three. The only other option is to get a law firm who don't specialise in sporting law. So, to keep everyone happy, they should get a criminal firm? Incidentally, I suggest you go and choose a random law firm - anybody. Within two days, there will be some pish about one of the senior partners being seen in the same golf club as Lawwell (AND, shock, one of them's a Celtic ST holder) and then there's the added bonus that they'll be working in a field their not professionally accredited to investigate.
So, there would be the same spew about this firm if they had a testimonial from Stuart Gilmour? I believe the acronym is DTM. If they had a testomonial from Gilmour, it would be ignored and some ****e about one of them being a taig would come out.
It goes without saying more will be said because it is the Celtic chairman's testimonial, but with the SPL knowing full well what the Scottish mentality is when it comes to football, I would have thought choosing a firm that has a testimonial on their website is the last thing they would have done.
Or one who had a daughter there 2 years ago on a placement? It's madness, people will find an excuse to disbar any legal firm as Bib says. The paranoiacs are winning this battle lord help us all.
Difficult to have anything to do with football if you have no connections to anybody in the game, I'd have thought. I accept your apology.
I meant nobody connected within the game under the SPL banner, so no apology from me! Nice try though.
Can you imagine the beel? For some Rangers fans, that would be instructing Lawwell to do it himself (as he runs the SFA and the SPL).
