i think celtic only had one player because we had brown and forrest out injured though no? another way of looking at it might be that the only scottish celtic 1st team regular who isnt a regular for scotland is commons - and i suspect that will change shortly as well it wasnt celtic fans booing black - it was scottish fans - i dont agree with it but thems the facts
To be fair Simon you don't have many Scottish players. It's one of the reasons Smith was so successful against you.
Paintists the lot of them. Seriously though, this is just an example of Occam's Razor. Doubtless some boed him because he was a Gers man, some probably booed him simply because they don't like him and never have, whatever team he plays for, but to suggest that this booing is part of some concerted campaign of hate against Rangers is laughable. Despite what Rocket says, Jinky WAS booed by Scotland fans, not because he was a Celtic player, simply because when he played for Scotland it invariably meant that Willie Henderson would be on the bench, naturally the Bears wanted to see Henderson.
I mentioned the fact earlier on this thread that I had seen a lot of Old Firm players booed at Hampden so I would concur with what your saying. The Black thing is probably a combination of factors. The Hearts and Rangers angles included. There is also the fact that Black is kind of like the bogeyman player. What I mean by this is you always get certain players who are generally loathed outwith their own support. Willie Miller, Neil Lennon, Ian Ferguson, Peter Grant, Mark Hately, Chris Sutton etc. Black in my opinion fits into that category. I mean the majority of our support hated him because of the tackle on big Jelli. I remember calling him an animal myself at the time. Now I'm glad he's at Ibrox, such is football. Nevertheless it was completely wrong of them to do that and they showed themselves up as the assholes they are. As I said earlier on this thread despite the Old Firm players being booed before I have never seen it happen to someone on their debut. I suppose parochialism is inevitable when you play these games in the sticks.
In the Ireland Serbia game the same night the Red Star fans booed their goalkeeper as he plays for their rivals and the game was at Red Star.
I said earlier I thought the booing was out of order, I personally hate fans booing their own players.
