Take me out to the ballgame, take me out to the crowd...

Nothing says Spring here in America like the start of baseball season.
If you don't like to actually watch the game, there is about three hours to take a snooze while pretending to watch.

Your 2012 Champions....The San Francisco Giants.
They won four straight games and defeated the Detroit Tigers in the World Series.

Ha! I just retired from their grounds crew in February. Worked for them for 6+ years.

Yours truly working the World Series in 2008.

Wow that's fantastic Leo, I would love to have a job like that.

What is that implement you have there?

It's a rake. We go out between the 3rd/4th innings and 6th/7th and rake the clay smooth. We also swap out the bases.
I was born a baseball fan. It was my life for a long time. It was a part time job and now that I'm in my mid 40's - two jobs were kicking my butt. But yes....it was a dream job for a baseball fan. Here's a better perspective. My co workers broom the surface smooth.

Here is me swapping out the base earlier in the season.

I hope it's ok posting there. I don't want to bore anyone but it does give perspective to what a Ground's Crew do.

The plate looks like one of those pieces from that game where you had to fit in the shapes before the timer ran out.

You may be interested to know Leo, that in Cricket, Baseball's second cousin, they are now using stumps that light up when the wicket is broken for a run out. Could that work for baseball, say when the ball connects with the fielders mitt and he also has his foot on the base? It could light up red for an out, or green if the batter got there first.

That's a mighty big rake too, by the way!

How do you assess the Ray's chances next year?

I noticed that cricket is similar. The actions are similar however the rules are quite different. Well, at least what I've read. The only time I get to watch it is highlights on Sky Sports. I'm not sure they could get the mitt to light up but certainly the base.

The Rays are like the Bucs. Hit and miss. We are in the toughest division there is (there are two leagues with three divisions in each league). We are in the same division as the Yankees, Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays & Baltimore Orioles. It's VERY hard to win the division. We also traded our best pitcher this week. It's like a transfer only we get players in return.

I'm going to get more into Baseball this year, is it similar to Championship (4 day) cricket in the amount of days the game takes up too?

I know Baseball is played in a day, (as is cricket in it's shorter format) but the series' that two teams play against each other, last for a few days don't they?

I'm a massive fan of county cricket, if you are lucky enough to be born in a county that has a major team (only 18 out of 49) which I was, Sussex being my home and therefore team of choice. Up the Martlets!
