    Nice first post Ash :)

I'd agree with the two Palace boys, especially Neil Danns who's had another terrific season and would be ideal alongside Morgan imo. Matt Phillips is one a lot of saints fans suggested in the Summer/January and he was comfortably Blackpool's best player when they played us in the F.A Cup 3rd round (although it wasn't hard as the rest of their team was sh!te that day!).

I think we'll spend big on a striker this season, Earnshaw would be great but, like CMS, it would cost us in excess of 2-£3 million which is a gamble. I'd take either over Murray though as I think they're all round better players.

Stephens would be okay as back-up but I'm quite sure if he's ready for the step-up yet. I wish him luck if he does return to Oldham though.

St Ledger's a bit over-rated imo and his hype has certainly died down in recent seasons. Matt Mills at Reading, Jack Hobbs at Hull, Wes Morgan/Chambers at Forest or at push, Alan Tate from Swansea if they don't go up I would go for.

    Thanks mate :)

Both would be great additions to the squad if we got rid of say Butterfield to open up space for Clyne , I have a mate who regally goes down to Palace and he suggests there the two best players in the side, also when vie seen them they've really impressed me. Matt Philips would be a great signing but someone I think wouldn't be to keen on joining , he's had perm football this season and if he's not instrumental in Blackpools team come next season I think he will be back in the premier league with one of the mid table teams there. That's why I feel Jennings Is a more realistic affordable options while still having a ton of potential and at goal he scored against was great although a tad lucky.

Same here mate , I don't really know of many others that would be available maybe Leon Best of Newcastle who we were linked to in January or maybe a free transfer move for Owen although in my opinion both offer less value for money than someone like Earnshaw. Murray is a waste of space in my opinion I'd play dave Connolly and even Garrod In front of him.

Heard good things about Jack Hobbs and Mills although Tate would be an amazing signing I cant aee him leaving Swansea.

Interesting to read people suggesting Leon Best and Matt Mills. Any others from our academy to come back? How about the Aussie lad now at Middlesboro (forgotten his name).

Dave Merrington on Solents coverage of the Plymouth game was raving about Yannick Bolasie. It would surely be worth looking at him, he wouldn't cost a lot.

    Scott McDonald

Personally, Andrew Surman and Matt Mills are the only youngsters I would have back (not including the obvious!) - and we can 100% rule out Surman, at least for the next 12 months.

I was very, very impressed with Bolasie when we played him, and I notice on the FL show on Saturday that he scored a decent goal against Orient.

Thanks Brendy. I suffer from memory fade! I saw the Bolasie goal v Orient too. The lad seems to have something about him and would surely add strength to Saints attacking midfield.

I definitely agree with getting an Earnshaw type. Maybe not the man himself, but he has proven time and time again to be an excellent goalscorer at Championship level. Thats the kind of players we need to be getting. Proven Championship quality.

If we got Bolasie I'd be chuffed, very versatile player with pace a good shot and bags of potential.

Danns is overrated and coming to the end of his career, Palace have better players like Ambrose and Clyne (CAM and RB) who I'd much rather take.

Bolasie is not that good. A few mates who are Plymouth fans say he is hit and miss. I don't really want that at saints. He's similar to forte.

We wont get Owen on a free. His wages will be too high, if he leaves man u it will be for low prem or possibly Leicester.

We need a pacey striker. CMS is who we should go for! Antonio would be decent cover for wide positions. New centre half is a must. I can see us picking up a decent foreigner. Lastly we need a tenacious midfielder, mainly for away games. Arsenal have few they could loan out. Coquelin and frimpong would also go down well.

Know this will never happen but Vaclev Kadlec is someone that would make a big difference and will be prem class.

I want Michael Owen, however only in my wildest dreams would he sign.

If it could be guarenteed that Owen would produce the goods (not neccessarily 30 or 40 goals a season, but a decent 15 or so) then of course I would like him here. After Shearer, he has been this county's best striker of the past 15 years in my opinion.

But the simple fact, he could end up missing 50% of the season with injury, and end up with 7 goals. That's hardly appealing on any level, but especially not when you factor in the wages that he would be wanting. So no thank you in my mind. I'd rather we went for someone how is proven is the Championship and who you can be very confident will deliver the goods.

Don't you think we should be looking more ahead and trying to bring in players that we feel will be able to cope in the premiership.

Do you not think that Bolasi would be more consistent with better quality players around him? I certainly do He reminds me of Phillips as youngster. Would be a useful asset especially if Connolly does not stay........

I honestly think that we should follow the example of West Ham, Cardiff and Leicester and try and get real quality on loan from the top clubs. Surely there are a few players that are surplus to requirements such as Robbie Keane, Craig Bellamy and Yakubu have been this season. There is no shame in exploiting the loan system if we can get top quality players into the club, affordably.

Big names or little names..they have to fit in with the team. We have to trust NC and NA to put their heads together. I bet we get at least one player we've never heard of.

For the last 5 days now I 've had people telling me that Beatts will be back at SMS next season. Can he still cut it or would he be no more than back up?

It's a good point but that argument is often flawed. Good players often stand out regardless. I already believe the player to be like forte, who probably won't set the world alight but to be fair, it's totally unknown. If he was that good he would have moved elsewhere in jan to pay players wages.

I would prefer to bring through our own youngsters and sign a couple of proven top half championship players. Obviously just my opinion though.

Yes, you saw, they have started already !

Saw on the echo site that our first player linked to us was Ian Henderson. Even though the link was to the sky sports website, they could seriously hold off until mid june ?

Henderson scored 10 goals last season, not being harsh or anything, but are we not trying for a 'premier league quality' club ?
