well deserved, but at the same time, it's a shame that they are playing for England. i always fear injury.

Andros starts a couple of games for us and is suddenly a full England international.

Who does Hodgson think we are, Man Utd?

Thought Daws might have got the call. Not sure what Smalling has done to justify selection, seems out of favour to the old men at Utd. And Ashley Young and Raheem Sterling are strange selections for me.

Barkley and Townsend very well deserved.

He's done well and obviously shown a lot of improvement recently. Spurs and the England set up should be given credit for persevering with him.

9 clubs on loan in 4 years in the Championship and League 1 suggested he wasn't going to make it and that he would finish up playing at a lower level, but he's made the breakthrough at Spurs and has impressed Hodgson.

Frankly both are ridiculous inclusions and just shows how poor the depth is for England.

    Well done anyway

I made a promise to myself that if either Barry or Milner make the England squad I would refuse to watch them play.

You should see the U-21 squad.

Fryers included in it and like him most of those selected would be lucky to get a game for their club's 2nd XI - Keane, Thorpe, Lingaard, Powell & Zaha from Utd, Wisdom & Robinson from Liverpool . Who are Bond, Long, Dier, Stones & Berahino? I think Stones made Everton's bench a few times. Very few selected play at first team level in the PL - only the Southampton lads Shaw and Ward-Prowse.

Barkley keeps up Hodgson's preference to call up young players who are nowhere near ready. Townsend, at least, has been performing well in the Premier League for half a season now.

Dier is Eric Dier, Lidls. Plays for Sporting Lisbon. Looks quite a talent but he's not getting much game time for them at the moment.
No idea about the others, though.

Credit also to Harry Redknapp for giving him his chance last season.

Jesus, I've just seen Southgate got the under 21s job! Unbelievable.

I guess the next former England international with a short and unsuccessful management record to get picked for bringing through the next generation of England players will have to be Tony Adams.

He's doing well at Blackpool at the moment. Merson's a good shout but I think he's get it too sweet at Sky to bother with a serious and time consuming role like under 21s management.
