England Test squad for Australia announced 23 Sept : Alastair Cook (Essex, captain), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jonathan Trott (Warwickshire), Kevin Pietersen (Surrey), Ian Bell (Warwickshire), Gary Ballance (Yorkshire), Michael Carberry (Hampshire), Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire), Ben Stokes (Durham), Matt Prior (Sussex, vice-captain), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire), James Anderson (Lancashire), Monty Panesar (Sussex, on loan at Essex), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Boyd Rankin (Warwickshire), Chris Tremlett (Surrey). Gary Ballance bit of a shock?
I must admit i didnt see this particular call up but his figures this year are good enough to get in on merit... Though it dos seem that Zimbabwe have become a breeding ground for us at the moment...
Australia captain Michael Clarke has been ruled out of the tour to India and requires "extensive rehabilitation" ahead of the return Ashes series. It they loose him, they are in **** street
Not a fan of his? I have to admit he hasn't played enough County Championship games for me, but his form in the one day series against Australia wasn't bad at all.
Not seen much of Rankin to be honest - they usually go for pace and bounce in Australia I am pleased about Ballance - I rate him
Not being English is a pathetic reason for not selecting Rankin. Working on your theory Trott,Prior,Pieterson, Stokes and Ballance should also not go. Onions is a good "English wicket" bowler but Rankin has good pace and bounce. well suited to Aussie tracks.
Alastair Cook (Essex, captain), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jonathan Trott (Warwickshire), Kevin Pietersen (Surrey), Ian Bell (Warwickshire), Gary Ballance (Yorkshire), Michael Carberry (Hampshire), Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire),Ben Stokes (Durham), Matt Prior (Sussex, vice-captain), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire), James Anderson (Lancashire), Monty Panesar (Sussex, on loan at Essex), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Onions, Chris Tremlett (Surrey).
Check out Trott and Ballance before making this statement. Rankin was born in Derry N.I.which is in United Kingdom Regulations Governing the Qualification of Cricketers for England (a) he is either a British citizen or an Irish citizen; and (b1) he was born within England and Wales; or (b2) he has been resident in England and Wales for the immediately preceding four consecutive years
Thought Trott's dad is English? Don't know about Ballance. I think you'll find Rankin was born in Londonderry. I disagree with the regulations, they should be changed to: (a) British subject and: (b) Born in England/Wales or (c) Lived in England/Wales as a child (under 18) or (d) Has English/Welsh parent
Londonderry and Derry are the same city. If you are going to argue a point FFS get your facts right Still with an Avatar of the "wicked witch" I shouldn't expect anything else
In 1984 the city council passed a resolution under section 51 of the 1972 Act to officially change the name of the district from "Londonderry" to "Derry", consequently changing the name of the council from "Londonderry City Council" to "Derry City Council" Are you a Nationalist or Unionist? Would still like to know your "English" squad,
I'd describe myself as a Unionist with a small u. TBH, if the scotch go, can only see the UK splitting into small states and am not greatly bothered if that happens, at least in England we'll get telly without all the strange accents. I gave you my squad and my revised rules for who is eligible.
