It's not only the ginga hair that reminds me of Scholles.

I was one of his biggest critics- he has made me out and probs a lot of us utter fools, but sure we don't mind. Starting to come into his own

 

It will only take some cash.
The lad probably wants a bit parity with players who have come in on big wages and he has out performed them and will still be on basic.

He has come on leaps and bounds and I think he has reached his potential.a very good player and vital to our squad if and I say if we have intentions to move on

 

I'm sure Gus will demand that we pay him what he is worth,and tie him up on a long-term contract!

 

He will never be a left back if he plays the game until he is 60. Its ridiculous how many people think he can play there?


I watched him as a youth player and then reserve team captain into first team player and he excelled as a central midfield player. The last 4 games he has played under Poyet he could have been MotM every game and at last we have a manager who sees and values the lad as a just that.

It should be the managers and the clubs first priority to get him to soon a new contract and pay him his value. We would need to spend at least £5 or £6m (if not more) to replace him so why not just pay him the money and ensure we keep a cracking footballer who never gets into off field bother, always turns up in games and for me, is possibly the first name on the team sheet these days. His work rate alone is vital in that midfield engine and has been the main reason for the mini turn around since Poyet arrived.

Sadly I hunk he will be away. Plus we are not safe. He may well wait to see what division we are playing in and who can blame him.

Midfielder Jack Colback in talks over a new contract at Sunderland

Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback has confirmed talks are ongoing regarding a new contract at the Stadium of Light.

Colback is out of contract at the end of the season and reportedly rejected a new deal in the summer when Paolo Di Canio was manager.

The 24-year-old was deployed at left-back under Di Canio, but has been restored to a midfield role under new manager Gus Poyet.

He now appears likely to stay with Sunderland, but acknowledged improving the club's lowly position in the Premier League is currently the priority.

"We've been in talks for a while now, it just takes time," Colback told The Sun.

"With the position the team is in there haven't been a lot of discussions, but that's natural.

"When we start winning that might pick up a bit. My last contract took quite a while."

Colback passed 100 appearances for Sunderland earlier this season and started last weekend's derby win over Newcastle which lifted the club off the bottom of the table.

Colback is a solid LB and a solid CM. He's 2 players wrapped in 1, and I hope god we manage to get him to sign a new contract. He would be a big big miss if we lost him.

 

Agree totally Dan - Colback played left back against Man City last year and was superb - He may be a CM and seems to be "re-growing" into that position now but prior to the last few games there were very few people on here who thought he was a capable midfielder - mainly due to his performances there.

At Left Back he has always been solid. He's no Leighton Baines or Ashley Cole but he is solid. My son (who is 9) is an excellent central midfielder at his club. Proper little box to box player. He is also a decent keeper and, when called upon (in absence of their normal keeper) he is reluctantly willing to play there (as long as it's not a permanent fixture). I think the nsame could be said about Colback (only where the left back is concerned as I don;t think he'll play in goal!!) - if he adds goals to his game then he will be a massive asset in CM for us and he is also very capable of playing at left back

Decent player, very Good attitude has a limited game but his strength is keeping it simple. I am afraid he will never be in the same league as Paul Scholes though.

 

Paul Scholes was my favourite player & Colback will never be in the same league as scholes. not many players were tho.

 

Carrick? Has a very good and effective knack of keeping it simple. We're not talking about that level (although no reason why we shouldn't dream of a player of that ilk coming from our academy). If he gets game time he can be "our" Scholesy (not in the same level but in a "Sunderland Equivalent" level)
