Cheers mate, de Boer is my joint favourite choice to take over here alongside Hiddink. Knows a couple of our players and his playing philosophies at Ajax are very similar to ours, seems a perfect fit. I just think Hiddink will be more appealing to Levy as he's an experienced and well respected manager in the game. Plus I don't reckon Levy will be interested in hiring another manager labelled an "up and comer", hope I'm wrong but I can't see de Boer being approached.
As mentioned earlier Hiddink signed a contract to take over Holland after the summer and his agent has said he wouldn't be interested. He doesn't have anything to prove and is probably enjoying the time off before he takes over Holland. So while he is my pick, that looks unlikely.
You actually feel the club will hire him? He's just signed a deal with Holland national team so that ship has sailedâ¦. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/guus-hiddink-become-netherlands-coach-2928508
I've said before I like Bielsa, and feel he would suit Spurs style. The problem is his age. What Spurs need more than a manager is a commitment to a style of football. The Bielsa style only works if players are completely committed to it. Between his age and Spurs need to change managers every two years, you'd have a partial transition to a different style of football, followed by a partial transition to something else. I'm not optimistic, frankly. We'll be able to get a big-ish name, but we'll throw him out when we're bored with him, and move on to a slightly smaller big-ish name. Well that's not very cheerful, is it? Everyone is capable of acting better then they have, even Spurs management. My take on the candidates: Fabio Capello you've got to be kidding Michael Laudrup doubt he'd take the job. I also wouldn't want him. What has Swansea done, really? Glenn Hoddle a crazy pick Guus Hiddink a reasonable thought, maybe. Not Spurs style, but not too bad. Frank de Boer Tim Sherwood You've got to be kidding. No way he'll be Spurs' manager. Oh, that's right. He already is. Mauricio Pochettino I'd take him over Laudrup, but, again, doubt he'd take the job. Marcelo Bielsa See my comments. Alan Pardew Ho ho Laurent Blanc Louis Van Gaal Sounds good. Cesare Prandelli Roberto Mancini No. Harry Redknapp Surely who the fans are clamoring for. It would be funny if he ditched QPR for us, then us for England.
I think the perfect appointment would be M.L he has taken swans as far as they can go, he would suit spurs style of play, and if it stops spurs fans moaning on the radio, I would be very happy
What has swansea done really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha only got us our first major trophy in our history, 8th in the premier league (with spending the least on players) knock out stage of the europa league whilst so far this season maintaining a mid table position in the process!!!!!!!!! for a club of Swansea's size that is nothing short of remarkable!!!!
Not so sure about Bielsa. He grossly underachieved with Argentina (including a first round exit at the 2002 WC) He did a good job with Chile, albeit he quit in protest to someone being elected president of the Chilean FA He got Bilbao playing good stuff and had a good first season (albeit choking in the Europa league and Copa del Rey finals), but he never led them above mid-table domestically
Well, he was manager of Russia while in temporary charge at Chelsea. His agent says he's not interested but maybe he could be persuaded to do the same job for us if Levy flashes the cash? Then appoint a permanent manager in the summer when there might be better options available. Just doesn't seem to be any stand out candidates at this stage and I worry that we will be rushed into another mistake...
I agree which concerns me. Our Chairman's track record of appointments hasn't exactly been glowing in the cold light of day.
Worried Saints fan here ~ I think Pochettino I probably the "best fit" for Spurs after Laudrup and it would not surprise me if Levy made an approach on Sunday after Saints win. He has worked wonders for us and we are currently playing the best football we have produced since lawrie Mac. It would be interesting as I am sure Spurs also covet both Shaw and Lallana who remain the most talented British players to have been produced since Gareth Bale. I hope I am wrong but I've a funny suspicion about this. Most Spurs fans would, I am sure, prefer to have followed a team like Saints this season where the bigger teams have had to fight to beat us. Surprised that poch hasn't been associated with this vacancy as he is the most5 obvious choice after Laudrup.
"Worried Saints fan here ~ I think Pochettino I probably the "best fit" for Spurs after Laudrup and it would not surprise me if Levy made an approach on Sunday after Saints win." Other clubs should be ok until the summer. I would think badly of any serving manager who leaves his current club mid-season because a better gig appears.
lol, Capello and Hiddink? do you think either would go to such a small club? you've won 1 cup in about 20 years, these managers are CL winners, they go to CL clubs, yours isn't apart from once, and you've sold the player that got you there and bought tat to replace him that only looks good against weak Europa teams. You aren't Man U, Man City, chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal so world class managers have no interest in you
I don't think it is a worry yet, he hasn't even been in charge for a whole year yet. I assume Tottenham must be in fairly advanced negotiations for a new manager or otherwise the sacking is incredibly poorly timed.
Saw earlier that BBC Sport's Ben Smith (don't know how reliable he is) believes that Laudrup's compensation would be in the region of 10m. Not sure that we would be willing to fork that kind of money out on him. Interesting list of candidates overall. I wouldn't be shocked if Levy/Baldini have been lining up someone since the City game and whoever the new guy is could be in place pretty quickly. Could be wrong though.
