With all the pro and anti CH posts and threads on this board does anyone really believe that DM will not act in the best interests of NCFC? If you believe that Hughton should go, but the board retains his services, then you are doubting DM's ability to run the club. Does anyone seriously believe this? I would seriously hope not. I and, I would hope, the large majority, are quite happy to support this boards decisions pertaining management appointments. Be carefully what you wish for. Should DM quit we may end up with another Doomcaster.

I am sure he has got the clubs best interests at heart, and there is no denying Delia and hubby do, but McN is human, which means he is not faultless (same as the rest of us). As well as he has served the club to this point doesn't mean he is not capable or making a wrong judgment. That is not to say that CH should, or should not go.

That's true, Thai, but I would also hope that DM would discuss it in detail with the Board and they would arrive at an objective decision. Thank God we haven't got a an owner knee-jerking from whim to whim like Cardiff have!

Eh? So, by having a different opinion, you are doubting his ability? I'll assume I've taken this post incorrectly as not sure it makes sense to me otherwise.

That's an exaggeration, but yes that is the point.

If you differ in opinion, presumably it is because you believe the other person has failed to account for something (or accounted too much). By definition, that means you think they have made a mistake.

I'm not afraid to say that I think McNally made a mistake in not replacing Hughton after the Liverpool defeat. The magnitude of that mistake is the debating point - I have a suspicion that it was not a big mistake (based on the plausible managerial alternatives). I also think we will still stay up, and comfortably, but my feeling, with limited outside knowledge, is that a different manager could take us further in the long term.

Happy to be proved wrong by future events!

Personally I think december especially the end is a terrible time to sack a manager as you go into the Transfer window either with no manager, Like west broom, or with a new manager who doesn't know the squad well enough to identify problem areas. Clearly the scouts will have ideas and there will be a list of targets but at this will have been constructed with Hughton's plans in mind.

The reason I feel that the manager gets sacked so frequently is that for most of the season it is the only change that the board can really make, but in january we get a chance to bring in new players and develop the squad, this is a far greater opportunity to improve the team than sacking the manager is and it shouldn't be wasted but creating an upheaval at the club.

I am sorry for going 'off-track' here and it is something I have been thinking about for a few weeks, and would point to Tim Sherwood as just one example. Who would have thought Spurs would appoint him for 18 months? A manager with no 'previous' in that position, but he appears to have got them playing again - and scoring.

So the question has to be, what makes a plausible managerial alternative?

I know that not all appointments work so well, but it does show that a change is not always a bad thing and for Spurs to take this approach must have been considered a massive gamble by a good few people (not to mention their fans).

barring a run of straight defeats, i think ch is with us now until the end of the season. as mentioned above, we are now in the transfer window, which is a big factor.
i also don't think we will sign more than one player in the window.

I think that people overrate the "gambles" taken by big clubs, just because they are big clubs and deemed more interesting.

Realistically, Tottenham are not going to get relegated even with me as manager. They were seemingly falling further and further behind in the race for fourth place too. If they fail to get that, they will probably still make Europa League (and not making EL might even be a good thing), but failing that they will only really lost the money per place which, for a club of Tottenham's size, is not quite so significant. In a sense, therefore, I think Tottenham have much less to lose other than pride. The big clubs can sack managers at will because the worst it will cost them is pride.

When you add to it that the board would also have known Sherwood well, the players would and there would have been an easy interview process in that he has essentially been a candidate for his entire tenure at Tottenham. He has also only been given an 18 month contract, so firing him in the summer won't be desperately expensive.

I'm hoping for a decent loan signing or two.

I would also like to see at least two, given the injury problems of late. We can't afford to gamble.

Does Elmander count as a loan? He's international so I'd imagine not but can quite remember.

I'd be very disappointed with no signings, accept one, but think we really need two more bodies in, one permanent and one loan would be good.

What do you mean? I'm positive he's a loan, but I'm fairly sure he is not counted towards the limit.

I believe an international loan is classified as temporary transfer, therefore not a loan.

I would like to see someone take a look at the back room staff
it's not always the manager who us the problem
The blame probably lies as much with Calderwood for
    The defensive style as perceived
Maybe DM should kick him out and bring in
An assistant with different ideas to spice things
up leaving it stable with a new drive

An idea I advocated on another thread several days ago. But these days it is a management "team" so maybe CH would not be receptive to the idea.

I think the manager should choose his own assistants, not have it dictated from above. Sounds a bit like the Cardiff style to me.
