To help you choose here's a handy list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_British_sitcoms My favourites: Bless This House (1972) Dad's Army (1971) George and Mildred (1980) Bean (1997) Porridge (1979) Rising Damp (1980) Steptoe and Son (1972) Steptoe and Son Ride Again (1973) Till Death Us Do Part (1968) The Likely Lads (1976)
I always found the films hugely disappointing. The Rising Damp one was basically a mash of all the TV episodes but with someone else doing playing the Beckinsale part.
Still good though, put up that lot against some of the blockbuster Hollywood "comedy" films made today, only one winner in my opinion. Some were new material Till Death Us Do Part (1968) in particular, which told the story of the Garnetts from pre-war slum to 1960s tower block. Love how it paints these new high rise estates as some kind of modern Utopia. Look how that turned out.
The Bless This House, On The Buses trilogy and Porridge. Man About The House was quite good too. All naff, but classics.
I agree ST they are never really any good. I remember how pissed off I was when I saw that Towering Inferno thing, where they got Steve McQueen to replace Cleese as Basil.
