Rangers: Ally McCoist dismisses Scottish Cup favourites tag Ally McCoist has cooled suggestions Rangers are favourites to win the Scottish Cup. McCoist's men defeated Dunfermline 4-0 in the fifth round and face Albion Rovers at Ibrox for a place in the semi-finals. And McCoist believes that Aberdeen, having knocked out holders Celtic, are the likely winners in May. "Some bookies might have us as favourites - as is their right - but I wouldn't go that far," said McCoist. The League One leaders were in impressive form against Dunfermline at Ibrox on Friday. However, McCoist believes there is little difference between his side and the Premiership clubs still in the competition. Beating Celtic saw Aberdeen rewarded with a home tie against Dumbarton, St Johnstone face Raith Rovers while Dundee United are set for a trip to Inverness CT, should John Hughes's side overcome Stranraer. "I'm not trying to play any mind games when I say this but I think Aberdeen and Dundee United will, in a lot of people's eyes, still have a slightly better chance. I counted us in the next band after Celtic and I still do. I don't think there's an awful lot between a lot of the teams there. But United beat St Mirren 2-1 and I watched St Johnstone three weeks ago when they beat Partick 1-0 and they weren't looking bad at all. You've got to say they had a fantastic result at Forfar and a lot of people would have been looking at that as a really tough fixture. We're in the mix but when you consider the other teams in there, I still don't think we're favourites to win the competition. I genuinely don't.You'd have to say Aberdeen, having knocked the holders and the champions out, would probably be most people's favourites now." Shamelessly lifted from our enemies website. Coisty's absolutely right to downplay this in my opinion. We know from past experience that anything can happen in cup competition. After Aberdeen's defeating Celtic I became convinced that the Dons would then draw Albion Rovers and then get knocked out themselves. I hope that wasn't an omen for us Still it would be a really big achievement to win the cup in the first division regardless of what people spout off about wage bills. I do reckon we will lose a couple of more SPL teams before the semis.
Think we should concentrate on getting past Albion Rovers and forget about everybody else in this competition tbh . McCoist has previous for losing games like these and he needs to keep his and the teams eye on the ball . Who may or may not be the favourites is immaterial .
Tbh the current Rangers team are capable of beating any of the teams left in . They are also very capable of losing to any team as well . We have an excellent chance to go all the way and in doing so ram it right up the tims and those ****s from the north east . As long aa we don't take anything for granted . Such as Albion Rovers .
We played them earlier on this season didn't we in the Ramsden cup? Nicky Law was immense that day as I remember it. No I take your point Aldo we are capable of anything when it comes to the cup You would think so Gus, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the Dumbarton tie won't be as easy as they thought it would.
We have absolutely no chance of winning the Scottish Cup. Nor do we have any chance of winning the League Cup.
When you're a dyed in the wool Dandy you take **** all for granted. We cannot afford to under estimate anyone and quite rightly so.
If we get to the final nothing or noone will stop us from lifting the Cup at The Piggery. We'll show them how to fill a stadium as well. This could be the greatest Scottish Cup win in our proud history.
I reckon it'll be us and Aberdeen. Unfortunately I think they will probably beat us. Which is extremely annoying because I hate losing to those scummy sheep shagging bastards.
