Liverpool will aim to bounce back from their UEFA Champions League defeat on Saturday as West Bromwich Albion visit Anfield for a Premier League showdown.

Brendan Rodgers’ side were stung 1-0 by Basel in midweek after sharing the spoils with Everton in a fiercely-contested Merseyside derby last weekend.
    Opta Facts

Such has been Liverpool’s slovenly start to the season they enter the seventh round of action four rungs below 10th-placed West Brom on the Premier League ladder, with the Baggies having made an explosive opening to the campaign.

Liverpool have just two victories to their name in the top flight and are without a win in their last three outings, losing to Aston Villa and West Ham United before drawing with rivals Everton.

Meanwhile, Alan Irvine’s West Brom are riding the crest of a wave with a hat-trick of wins in all competitions; their third round Capital One Cup triumph over Hull City sandwiched by league wins against Tottenham and Burnley.

A Saido Berahino brace helped the Baggies to a 4-0 victory over the newly-promoted Clarets last weekend and Irvine will draw heart from the fact West Brom have won three and lost just one of their last five encounters with the Reds.

    Team news:

Liverpool coach Rodgers will wait on the fitness of Daniel Sturridge, with the England striker set for a late fitness test, despite being left out of Roy Hodgson’s latest squad for the Euro 2016 qualifiers due to a lack of action.

The striker has missed six matches with a thigh strain and while he is edging closer to full fitness, he has been left out of the England party.

Rodgers’ injury woes show little sign of relenting with defenders Glen Johnson and Mamadou Sakho (both thigh), Jon Flanagan (knee), midfielders Joe Allen (knee) and Emre Can (ankle) also unavailable.

There is also a blow for Irvine with Silvestre Varela ruled out of West Brom's trip to Liverpool and the club will now assess whether he needs hernia surgery.

The Baggies are liasing with the winger's parent club Porto to see if Varela needs to go under the knife.

Strikers Brown Ideye (ankle) and Victor Anichebe (groin) are also sidelined meaning four-goal Berahino will lead the line and Chris Baird is fit again after illness.

    Opta Facts

Daniel Sturridge has scored in three of his five Barclays Premier League appearances against West Brom including both games for Liverpool.

West Brom have only ever won back to back away Premier League matches on three occasions, the last time in November 2012.

The Reds have kept just one clean sheet in their last 12 Premier League matches.

Alan Irvine has already won as many competitive games as West Brom manager (three wins from eight games) as Pepe Mel did (three wins from 17 games).

    -----------

Going to be a tough game but we need a win from somewhere, we now need to start closing the gap onto the top 4. 3 points here, no excuses!

    firstly before the derail lol,

i can only see a 0-0 unless studge is playing sadly, i have no confidence in us scoring at the moment unless its a pen or free kick.

that liverbird with the ball would make a damn fine tatoo, i might have actually found my lfc tat. not sure of style for wording of lfc underneath though, maybe it doesn't need it saying that, as picture says a thousand words type thing.

any way, come on you reds, lets ****ing do this, 3 pts minimum, you over paid useless ****s lol.

Are you trying to say we're not going to bother showing up again? We have been a bit anonymous this season.

  9. I believe that this weekends game is a must win match and I'm sure many others will agree. I'll extend that to beyond this weekend too, I think we need to be putting a run together. The next four league games are all winnable; WBA (H), QPR (A), Hull (H) and Newcastle (A). The absolute bare minimum from these games is ten points but we need twelve!

Wouldn't be surprised if Rodgers chooses to start Lucas and Lambert ...

  13. I'm 50:50. We're a due a win and with us being at home, part of me thinks we'll scrape through. the other side of me wonders where the goals will come from.

    Borini <laugh>

what a ruddy choice for liverpool strikers lol.

  16. Pretty much my point in the whole Mario argument. We've bought him and lack other options. Lambert and Balotelli are very similar. The only worker we have is Borini but he's not good enough elsewhere. We are massively reliant on a injury prone Studge #brodsfault

Ignoring Studge, I'd pick Borini out of the other trio though. He works for the team which is a bare minimal quality in my book.

I wouldn't mind giving him a full game up top though at least he'll try. Borini and Lambert to start instead of the one up top we've been playing.

I understand you on Borini but would you like a trier who can't control the ball and loses it, or a player like Balo who can use his strength and hold it up but with less work rate.

There's no right answer - they're both poor options to be honest lol.

I rather we play the diamond with Sterling as Balo's partner cus we need runners, and Hendo plays as a proper box to box.

  19. Another look at that could say:

A trier who pressures the opposition into mistakes that helps creates chances or a player like Balo who stands still and compromises the movement and space for the rest of the team.

Easy to put positive and negatives to certain individuals to suit your argument <ok>

I actually agree with the last bit (Sterling and Mario up top) and suggested it earlier in the season, I think it could work BUT Mario needs to start moving still.

    Lucas yes Lambert no.

    I predict

    Mignolet
    Manquillo Skrtel Lovren Moreno
    Gerrard Henderson
    Markovic Sterling Lallana
    Balotelli
