Mario Kart 8*(the*8*being stylized as the*Möbius strip*in the logo of the game) is an upcoming*Mario Kart*game for the*Wii U, confirmed to be released in Spring 2014. The game is the eighth installment in the mainstream series, and eleventh overall in the*Mario Kart*series. Anti-gravity, a new gimmick for the*Mario Kart*series, has been confirmed.*Bikes, gliders, and underwater driving are also confirmed to return.

The gameplay maintains the traditional elements as most*Mario Kart*games. The main karts use a similar design from*Mario Kart 7, with gliders returning from this game.*Bikes, which are introduced in*Mario Kart Wii*make a return as well, though they will not be able to do wheelies. Vehicles can also go underwater. The game introduces anti-gravity tracks, that allow the players to race on vertical and upside-down roads. When in anti-gravity, if a racer bumps into another racer the kart spins rather than just bumping.*Coins, introduced in*Super Mario Kart*and returning in*Mario Kart: Super Circuit*and*Mario Kart 7, also return for this game, and like*Mario Kart 7*the player can only collect up to ten coins at one time.[2]*Kart customizing from*Mario Kart 7*also seems to be a feature shown by some of the standard karts having different wheels. Also, likeMario Kart Wii, twelve racers are present in normal races[3]. An aesthetic changes includes the kart headlights turning on in a dark area. It has been confirmed that there will be*Miiverse*integration, which will allow players to share their replay videos and comment on others' videos.

    Release date: spring 2014

I haven't played any of the Mario Kart series since 64, but the first two were two of my favourite games ever.

There are not many games for it because it's a new console. Wait till after this Xmas then you will see loads of great games. Exclusives and third party.

Mario kart has been out for a week now and I have to say I'm obsessed! If you were unsure about the game I've plucked some quotations from reviews that might help make your mind.

    The guardian:
Regardless of the Wii U's troubles Nintendo remains one of (if not the) greatest developers on the planet in terms of making games that are a pure joy to play, and Mario Kart 8 is one of its finest. The question with Mario Kart 8 was never really "is this going to be good", because with Nintendo that much can be taken for granted. The question is whether it's the best yet. And, among one hell of a field, it takes first place.
    Score: 5/5

    Edge magazine:
First things first: it’s going to be difficult to return to previous Mario Karts after this. Even 2011’s effervescent 3DS outing, Mario Kart 7, feels somewhat lifeless by comparison. The new HD visuals are gorgeous, but Nintendo has also built on 7’s neatly interlaced mechanics and introduced a nuanced handling model to create the greatest Mario Kart yet.
    Score: 9/10

    Eurogamer:
Bold, accessible, deep and rich, Mario Kart 8 is premium video game development. It*feelsexpensive. But this isn't the vacuous lavishness of the Hollywood blockbuster; its excesses and indulgences work towards a common goal - or rather, finish line. The game may build upon some of the steady inventions of its predecessor (the diversity of handling options, the airborne sections) but in these staggering, monument-like arenas, those ideas have been given space to fully blossom.

Video game players are familiar with the law of diminishing returns. Even as new entries in a series tirelessly improve upon their predecessors, our interest nevertheless wanes; with games, improved is somehow less exciting than new. Mario Kart 8 is a rare thing, then: the best entry in a series*and*the most exciting yet.
    Score: 10/10

    IGN:
Mario Kart 8 is the best kart racing game Nintendo has made in a long time. It strikes a careful balance between refining old ideas while introducing fresh new ones. Admittedly, its gorgeous graphics and jazzy orchestrated soundtrack bolster its presentation, but you’re getting a lot more than just looks with this one – although I spent an awful lot of time gawking at the details in slow-motion, the fast and furious pace of racing with friends both locally and online is what really kept me coming back.

    Bought Mariokart 8 last week.

Amazing game and courses, been playing my son the past week and he's starting to beat at it pretty regularly so think my gaming days might be over. :(

10/10 as always though. There is no better gaming series ever made that Mariokart.

Agree! DM your user name and we can have a race if you want. We can even set up a not 606 tournament. (Unfortunately i doubt there will be many players on not 606)
