The penultimate event rolls into town and Gullane Golf Club in East Lothian to be specific before the British Open begins at St.Andrews next week. Recently a lot more of the pros are taking up the chance to get some links play in on a competitive stage and sharpen their game towards a good stint at the British Open. Phil Mickelson being the most recent to do the double of taking the Scottish Open then going onto lift the British Open a week later.

I have decided on 2 picks for the event who I feel may have skipped under the radar with the bookies due to form and injury but who I think are back in form and have targeted this event as a chance to show that to the public.

Robert Rock 150/1 - was a regular on the leader board over the past 5 years before a blip in form over the past 12 months. He has been focusing on coaching a lot recently and I think this has came across in his game in tournaments where the competitive edge didn't seem to be there. He will really relish the links course here and the terrific ball striker he is he can definitely make his presence felt over the 4 day's here in an event he will be keen to do well in. A very lively outsider who if on form can make his price look very silly.

Thorbjorn Olesen 150/1 - he has missed most of this season due to injury after falling off a camel late last year. I had tipped this lad for big things several years ago and he hasn't quite kicked on with the game he has but it's a tough grind out there most weeks and there's not many soft events any more. He has proven he handles links golf very nicely and is a sweet ball striker, a huge asset on links golf courses where he can shape it high, low right or left which suprisingly not all pros are good at. This is very speculative bet for me even though I'm a big fan. At 150/1 I felt he was overpriced here in a field he can compete with comfortably if on his game.

The PGA golf is the John Deere Classic where Jordan Spieth is a warm order to take the event over there before lining up at St.Andrews. I won't be betting there this week but I will be closely following Patrick Rodgers progress once more.

    All the best folks.

    Good start from Olesen!!

My bets for this are Shane Lowry (22/1), Thongchai Jaidee (35/1) and Anirban Lahiri (150/1)

Yes, a fantastic start for Olesen who currently leads at -7. Terrific shooting. 3 full day's play though so I won't get too carried away but he is the kind of player who will find confidence from that round and bring it forward.

Lowry off to a fast start too Fabio...He will really like the set up there and having won the Irish Open and progressed since he will surely be thereabouts too. Possibly the best short game in the world Lowry has. Big statement considering Big Phil is still active but he's damn close to him in that area.

All the best with your bets and hopefully one of us can bag the place money at the least and with a fair bit of luck be collecting the winners trophy. <ok>

No shout of 4 from Justin Rose who for the second time this season floors a man in the crowd by hitting his drive left and onto the man's head. He knocked a man out at this year's memorial too on the 18th where he went on to lose a play-off to David Lingmerth. Just call 4 Justin it's not hard.

Poor Thorbjorn struggling to make the cut now :) amazing game isn't it.

Lowry was superb this morning, I managed to see most of his round and was impressed. The course is as soft as you will get right now but I don't think Lowry would mind a bit of wind to shake a few off. Being a fellow Irish man I hope he can take it home now.

Here today, gone tomorrow as it goes for Thornbjorn Olesen. Totally capitulated today shooting +7 to add to yesterday's -7 missing the cut at level par <doh>

Robert Rock has played his way into contention for the placings though shooting -3 today to end his 2 day total at 136 or -4.

If the course stay's calm as it has been it should be a birdie fest once more and on moving day I'd expect a few of the early starters to make hay and close the gap on the leaders.

Intriguing weekend ahead and good luck with those who are still in contention <ok>

When I bet on golf I like to at least get a run for my money, getting that from Lowry and Jaidee could still be in with an outside shout. Tommy Fleetwood was someone I had considered at the start, knew he had been doing well on the European tour this year but overlooked him and instead went for my big outsider Lahiri, who missed the cut. Got myself some of the 25's for Fleetwood, think that could still be decent value.

Fleetwood is one if those who is not far away from the very top of the game right now. Just needs to add that consistency throughout events week In week out. Jaidee is a funny man Fabio, had the pleasure to meet him at an American Express event in Ireland some years ago and he was very courteous and loving the camera. He was just coming onto to the tour at this stage so it was all new to him and he was living it up. Very solid player. Let's see how it shapes up tomorrow. I'd say -15 is the winning score now at a guess.

Do you know anything about the guy that's leading? I hadn't even heard of him before this week, no idea if he's just an up and coming young guy or an old pro or what. To be fair I've been betting on and watching a lot more PGA tour golf this year than I have on the European tour, so I'm more in touch with American golf than European.

Not much Fabio. He has only been on tour the last 2 years I think and he did win the Madeira open in his debut season. That stands out because Alaistair Forsyths caddie died during that tournament of a heart attack. You will most likely have heard of that. He was saying yesterday he doesn't feel like missing a shot so he's obviously in a good place with his game right now and will be interesting to see how he handles it over the weekend with this being a home event more or less.

Looking forward to the 15:20 pairing of Rose and Lowry. Worth the entrance fee alone to see those two hit shots around Gullane. In their current form you would have to fancy their chances for the big one next week too.

Interesting little stat the boys threw out on Sky about Jiminez earlier. He averages a win every 31 events on the ET...He has played 30 events since his last win  he couldn't...could he ???

Been a bad day for Lowry!! Hopefully he might be able to limit the damage and get a few birdies coming in, even then it would be hard to see him mounting much of a challenge tomorrow from 5 or 6 shots back.

I hope not!! Not only cos I've no money on him but he's one player I really don't like. He seems to be a well liked guy though, but I've just never been able to take to him.

Very suprised with Lowry Fabio. He's the one I thought would really push on today but has went backwards. May wait to hear what he thinks in his post round interview.

Your boy Fleetwood is there going well though <ok >

Looks like Fleetwood will be carrying all my hopes tomorrow, neither Lowry or Jaidee have kicked on today. Jaidee's scores have been steady all week, but steady wasn't going to win this, looks like a course that's just wanting to be attacked and the scores are there.
