Financial security? Even with a relegation clause they're still on more per week than most make in a year it's hardly like they get reduced to minimum wage. I appreciate your point and I understand what you're saying that's why some players look to jump ship.

HOWEVER all players (assuming they played most matches) have to assume collective responsibility for the failure of the team. This imho marks the difference between being a good player or a mercenary.

No,they don't have to take collective responsibility, it is nonsense to suggest every player plays badly in a relegated team or is not good enough.

Footballers have 14 professional years (the lucky ones) to earn as much as they can. What are they going to do afterwards?

Is being in the Premiership for one year going to give you financial security? It is just common sense to take it while its on offer. I have no issues with players leaving when relegated.

He Is the only Norwich player to score In a World cup finals.
Leroy was one of the best performers at QPR and the season he spent with us we did not play well as a team.
We made a profit on him so I don't see the fuss personally.

The trouble is people think players are like fans.

It is a place of work for them. If you absolutely love your job and some company offers you more money you may stay. If there is nothing special about your worplace and you have just had a 40% pay cut then you will probably move on.

I don't buy into this idiotic witch hunt towards a player from Holland that was good for us but left at a profit to further his career.
It didn't work out for him we made money from the deal so what?

You are just gay for Cromer .<doh>

I thought somebody mentioned earlier in the thread that they wouldn't mind having him back?
No, QPHa dangled a sizeable carrot and he was gone like a rat up a drainpipe.
Whereas, Howson, Bradders, Wes and even Redmond stayed put to help right the perceived wrongs of the relegation charade. And succeeded, as it happens <ok>
Much as I appreciate everything carrabuh said about short careers at the top level, etc, in some people's eyes, there's no substitute for a little loyalty.

Those eyes don't tend to be responsible for the players life, well being and his family.

Should we have been loyal to Neil
    adams and Hughton ?
Did the club just cash in on Fer ?
Perhaps Leroy thought Adams's style and direction would damage his Holland career ?.
Loyalty is not a one way street and players and managers come and go especially if you have no links to Norfolk or England.

Darren Eadie going to Leicester was a kick in the balls yet he is a cult Icon .
    What's the difference ?

Snodgrass jumped ship and nobody got on his case.
We released Shackle and Mackay they proved us wrong and played In the prem that is football.

This was posted on twitter by someone following Elliott Bennett and tweeted to Grant Holt

So Leroy Fer failed his medical.

His body is absolutely fine, just too lazy to open the doctor's door. #ncfc #qpr

    Also

@BigGrantHolt As I read from someone else's Twitter, he failed due to the lack of a backbone..

I have absolutely no complaints about him moving for more money or to avoid a pay cut, also you have to respect someone wanting to be at the top of their game and he got the opportunity. I think people get blinded by the sums involved but for footballers they are effectively amortising their career earnings into the first 10 years or so. If you every have an earring potential that high you need to leverage it, not doing so is just naïve or stupid.

What annoyed me about that article was I felt he left in a relatively class-less way. There was no need to say that the players were better quality. Obviously it's a popular soundbite for QPR fans but wholly unnecessary.

“When you’re coming up from the Championship it’s hard, but we have better quality players and we are more of a team (than Norwich),” he said. “We have to stick together. We are a good team, with great ability, and if we keep doing what we are then I think we will be fine.”

So not only is he a "mercenary" it he's also a terrible judge of character

Just joking but you gotta lol really haven't you its just too funny life's little tricks & turns. Wonder if QPR put a relegation clause in his contract now he's stuck with them

Why bother with players of that quality? How could they possibly get relegated?

I certainly don't begrudge players moving on when another team comes calling with a better pay cheque. Just think Fer should have been a bit wiser in terms of judging who to go to. It was always a reasonable bet that QPR would drop back. I suspect he had an agent with a hard on for some QPR commission who is now reeling from a failed medical and therefore no bonus this close season.
