Bournemouth 'table bid' for ex-Swansea City star Jonathan de Guzman Would you hijack or do you think we've moved on and wouldn't get a look in Anymore?
I think we have moved on from him, but I wish him success on wherever he goes, he's a good player and with the way Bournemouth plays he would fit in
Ki, Jonjo, Cork, Siggy and Grimes I would put ahead of De Guzman right now. And I was a big fan of him while he was here. But his most effective trait was his dead ball ability. And imo Siggy is better at it than he is.
He's played more than enough for both the 1st team and u21's to see the lad has talent and will make a regular contribution at some stage , whats the point of buying another midfielder as a squad player because imo that's all De Guzman would be .
Plus if JDG signed, it would be as a CM where we also have Fulton and Leon, not to mention Eder, Ayew, Routs and Emnes can play as CAM or 'false 9'.
Don't get me wrong - not saying we should sign JDG - but interested to understand how Grimes has proven himself better than an experienced Dutch international ? Potential maybe - but he hasn't played anywhere near enough games at a high level to be proven. I feel we are covered in this area, and JDG would be a useful addition - but in no way necessary or needed with the talent we have there.
Sorry if I've missed a post but who said that Grimes is better than De Guzman ? I'm certainly not but do we need to buy another midfield player when we appear to be blessed as you say with a group who can and have slotted into which ever midfield role that's been required . he would be useful no doubt but needed no imo
I don't think its about Grimes proving himself at this stage Pricy, but more Grimes being given an opportunity to be all he can be. We have so many players ahead of JDG that, imo, he'd be a squad number at best, on the periphery with little game time, if any. The number would be wasted on JDG imo and an opportunity for an academy player to progress into the first team squad would be lost. The academy and development of youth is very important part of our plan and signing JDG would block the development of an academy player.
De Guzman was only ever an attacking threat. Defensively he was slow, lazy and weak. He very rarely put a foot in. Even in his limited appearances. Grimes has shown he has one hell of an engine on him, can contribute greatly to our attacks and will get stuck in. If we were talking about the position of attacking midfielder then fair enough JDG would be ahead. But as a central mid (where he generally plays), he doesn't have the right attributes to be ahead of Grimes imo.
Hopefully Grimes will get a decent amount of minutes on the pitch this season. If he fulfils an ounce of the potential he so clearly has, he will be a very very good player.
I enjoyed de guns time with us...He signed with us the same day as michu, but there will be no bid from us for him..His day has gone though I wish him well.
We dont need him or want him, we have moved up a level since he was here and if we should ever be in the market we would want a higher caliber player than him. good luck to him but no thanks....
That goal he scored for us in Valencia was something special but overall I always felt he flattered to deceive.
Yep - a great goal. We Jacks were sitting behind him and could see it was going in as soon as he hit it..... as sweet as a nut!
Probably best away game ever for Swans fans in fact all the trips around Europe for those of us lucky enough to attend were memorable.
