So roll back to the 2013/2014 season.. Suarez, Sterling and Sturridge all scoring and assisting for fun, absolutely blowing teams away and scoring 3+ goals against Everton, Arsenal, Spurs, United and City.. We're the only team to score 100+ goals and not win the league, and my own opinion is that we played the best football we've ever played in my life time during that season. We were a high tempo, high pressing, counter attacking team and it utilised almost every attacking player in our squad.. However..

The following Summer Suarez buggers off. We bring in Balotelli and due to an injury to Sturridge we begin the season in a 4-3-3 formation. Tepid, boring and ineffective for the most part. Eventually that's changed to a 3 at the back.. We went unbeaten in 10 (winning 8 games), but even through that period.. We were still dull as **** to watch. In fact, the only time last season I can remember us playing half decent football was against Man City at home (2-1).

Now, again, Sterling buggers off at the start of this season. And now we've reverted back to the dull 4-3-3.. And again, we look pretty boring.

Why has Rodgers completely ditched what worked so well in the 13/14 season? I know we had Suarez, but he hasn't tried to mimic that formation in anyway shape or form since then. And for me, we've become a really stale, predictable team. Possession team but haven't got the players to utilise it effectively, attacking full backs who can't attack and full of half wingers and unspecialised midfielder's playing together.

Bring back the days full of pace! None-stop attacking football.. You score 4 but we'll score 5, at least it was exciting!! We were a feared team that season, I think if we opt for this more defensive shape every team are going to fancy there chances against us. ]

    Thoughts?

We started last season in a 4-5-1 IMO. Sturridge was a lone man and we persisted with this for most of the season until Rodgers was forced to change things.

Personally, I think the reason we're boring is because of the way Rodgers is setting these team up and not personnel. I think we have some exciting players in our team but are simply not being used properly.

Also, he's now compromising on the attack to focus on the defence. Now whilst I like the approach of showing more emphasis on the defence, Rodgers is swinging towards it completely. The best managers find that balance - Rodgers is unable to do this.

The worrying thing for me is that whilst we're set up more defensively thus not over-committing in attack, we still find our defence under threat.

I think it's a bit of a myth that he's this great attacking coach.

Take our Suarez and our team is nowhere near effective. The best thing Rodgers has done at this club is basically give Suarez a free role in 13/14 and let him loose.

Exactly. We're now becoming primarily a defensive team built on possession. That's great, if we had decent defenders who can pass the ball. Why not put Sakho in there? At least the lad can play as well as defend. We have better attacking players than we do defending players, surely it would be prominent to play to our strengths?

Yep, Skrtel has been caught on the ball 3-4x in the past two games and I think this is because he's now the main ball playing defender, without Sakho or Can next to him.

Who knows what Rodgers wants - me personally, I think Rodgers isn't intentionally trying to hinder the attack by becoming more defensive. I think the attack is failing because he's shoe-horning certain players into the wrong roles, and whilst Benteke showed good signs, he's clearly not a natural fit for our players.

Another annoying thing is best in central position or on the left. So why play him on the right against Bournemouth to allow Lallana to start of centrally?

Our 1-0 home win generated over 10 times the discussion of Everton's destruction of Southampton <whistle>

The 2013/14 season you speak of wasn't breathtaking at the start. Remember the consecutive 1 nil wins all goals scored by Sturridge?? . We held on for those games too. it's too early to say we are boring as majority of the players are new and bedding in. I don't mind a boring ten matches as long as we get the points on board. Performances will come and one thing I can at least credit Rogers teams is their form from January is consistent l.

But yes, I think we are a bit boring most of the time nowadays.

    I see it like this:

We were winning 5-3, 3-2 etc during that exciting year and we were all moaning that we are just too open and its all well and good scoring loads but we need to concentrate on defending.

We are now starting to do that, and if we exclude the last 2 games of last season we have conceded 19 league goals in 19 league games. Now we are shifting to 'this is too boring'.

So what is wanted; To beat every team with flair scoring 3 or 4 without conceding.

That can't happen, because this is real life.
