The Leicester City "spiral" watch!

Discussion in 'The Premier League' started by Hoddle is a god, Jan 17, 2016.

  1. The Stamford Bridge side are also looking at Leicester playmaker Riyad Mahrez, 24. (Star)

    And so it begins.

  2. The "spiral" refers both to the rise, this season, and to next season's inevitable fall.

It is my very firm opinion that a top 4 finish this season will come at the cost of complete and utter humiliation next season, in both the CL and the Prem.

In the CL, for example, even Leicester's fans cannot think that they, with their Wimbledon-esque brand of park-the-bus-then-hoof-it-up-the-park-for-Vardy football, is going to be anything other than the poorest grade of cannon-fodder for proper football teams?

Leicester would be better off starting out in the Europa League, and doing that for a few seasons, to prove that they have the credentials and consistency to mount an annual European campaign. It is not easy, as West Ham found out this season - and they were humiliated in the Europa ff!

The old saying is, that the faster they rise, the quicker they fall. Another is, the higher the climb, the harder the fall.

It's going to happen to Leicester City. We all know that, let's not pretend we don't. And sure - you can pay them all the patronizing plaudits you like, but that does not take anything away from my argument. They've capitalized in a season when so many teams have had their worst ever seasons! Well done to them, for that! But let's not pretend that this is anything other than a freak-season, particularly for Leicester City.

Do they still have the Intertoto cup? Think that would be a good starting point for a novice team in europe. its hard enough trying to rescue the co efficent points required due to regular CL failures. Carrying leicester on top of that might be too much for us to do alone.

I hope they still have the Intertoto cup, so they can learn the ropes.

  4. Actually, that's a good shout, Spurlock!

    It's a kind of Europa-but-with-stablelizers competition.

Spot on Hiag, that is how i see it.

I hope they still run it for our sakes. We need English teams to have the correct foundations if they are to represent us in the elite trophies. Not saying you must win it, but dont ****ing embarass us.

  8. Exactly!

We get enough annual embarrassment in Europe, as Englishmen, from the likes of Arsenal; the last thing we need is the likes of Leicester embarrassing us in a noddy cup competition!

Then, again, as you rightly point out, minnows like Leicester City do need to start somewhere, and the Intertoto (or similar noddy competitions) is a good place to start. Failing that, they ought to approach Arsenal to be part of next season's Emirates Cup. They don't come much more noddy than that.

I suppose as a spurs fan it must be difficult to watch Leicester heading towards a CL spot when it's been tottenhams only goal for years now and they've only managed it once. Leicester could have played the same amount of CL football as Spurs by next year <laugh>

that is not the point is it?

that is like saying we entered the CL once and still managed to win it the same amount of times as some team which has been in it for the past 18 years.

Can you stop de railing the thread with your own issues? Arsenal fans de railing every thread and not adding anything to the debate lately is poor form.

    We are discussing Leicester.

  12. It's frustrating, Spurlock.

The Gooners on this site are like autistic children. If little Johnny has a thing about rocking back and forth whilst tearing sheets of paper into uniform strips, you have to let him be. Whether you are in the restaurant, the cinema, at church, or in the toilet with him, waiting to wipe his arse, let him rock back and forth and get through that sheet of paper. In the meantime, go about your business as usual, and try to not let it affect you.

I think we simply have to accept that this site will always have to endure a "special" relationship with its Gooners.

    I was discussing Leicester!

This seems to be the latest rivalry appearing in the premier league.

Having spent more time at the top of the table this season than Tottenham have in total since 1992, it would appear Leicester are showing the spuds how CL qualification is done. With Tottenham having only managed the feat once in however many years Leicester could have played the same amount of CL football as Spurs by the end of next season.

With Leicester also holding the advantage in head to head matches Spurs fans must be wondering how Leicester are finding it so easy to be the better club? It's probably a topic worth a thread of its own but alas I can't be bothered!

We may have only got there once, but we got to the last eight. Better than your usual last sixteen...

Three little fishes dangling on my rod.... Don't think any other Spurs fans post on the premier league board so I'll take that as a win shall I? ;)

If only I had a clever picture of a fisherman....

  16. Not being "bothered" to discuss football on a football forum is the very complaint that many of us have against that small clutch of Gooners!
