I was really enjoying the varied, well reasoned viewpoints on this thread......and then along came KIO to put the frickin' skids under everything <yikes>

    I think KIO is Doomcaster!

    • I've never seen them together in the same room
    • He seems to always be ready with a personnal snap
    • He occationally has a rant about McNally, delia et al - sour grapes perhaps!
    Bah!

Don't understand the negativity surrounding this from you. You don't know wether he will fail or succeed, you don't seem to want to him to do well. Strange!

In terms of track record though, what makes him any more qualified than anyone on this forum except his surname? As I've said earlier in this thread I can see the sense in "succession planning", but agree with NorfolkBhoy in questioning whether a move from a photography business straight to board member is really the best course of action? He's a Norwich fan, great, but wouldn't it have made more sense for him to learn his way around the club from a more junior position first? The idea of him coming in and being able to vote on board matters with equal weight as McNally, Foulger, etc seems positively mad. In most trades you'd serve some kind of apprenticeship, or prove yourself in some way, why should this be different?

Now you've explained it like that DH - I have to agree with you.
Having said that - I've seen a great many cases of 'nepotism' in my life, but I guess this one tops the lot!!!

But that's the point, surely? DH's last post was not negative, it was questioning whether this was the right move for the continued progression of the football club. And rightly so.
If being called 'Smith' was the sole criterion for joining the board, holy mother of mercy, we'd have more directors than fans! :emoticon-0105-wink:

On which note 'Smiffy', of twitter fame, could do a good job on the recruitment side <yikes>

I'm up for the challenge Jon, fact is the guy is barely out of short trousers and it's nepotism of the highest order quite frankly it stinks and I'm surprised there hasn't been more of an uproar about it. I thought that when the old girl finally relinquished power we might have a new broom to take us forward, looks like it's going to be more of the same. As much as I admire Fry as an actor and comedian, it was a complete joke him being given a place on the board, but this appointment has usurped that big time. Mind you appointing a Chairman who nearly bankrupted the UK comes a close second.

Read my earlier posts. I have actually stated that I hope he proves me wrong and that the move to the board is a good fit for him. I have also stated that I don't know how he will get on.

Read my posts and quote where I said I want him to fail

All I have done is question whether it was the correct decision for the club going forward for someone with no track record in either football or running a substantial business going straight to the board or whether it may be wiser for him to hold a more junior position until he proves his ability.

I think in summation I'd finish by saying please just read my earlier posts and try to grasp what I am saying rather than assume I have some sort of agenda against the bloke.

What other "less high profile" position is available? He's replacing someone who's standing down, therefore being given the chance to learn, if he needs that? No one knows wether he will be making major decisions on his own, I very much doubt it, but I don't know that. Please don't start with the name calling, I'm not twitchy, I'm a supporter of my club and want the best for it and am prepared to give him a chance. Just because he's someones relation doesn't make it a bad choice/decision.

What qualifications did you have to become moderator? Have you been one before or are you learning on the job?
Please don't patronise me! Just saying.

On this board I was offered the gig because I already modded the F1 board. I started modding the F1 board after a vote in which I never put myself forward.

I don't see how that's relevant in the slightest.

This guy could have an IQ of 3 and ILD woulds still endorse him because of his name.

It has that inbred, clique thought process that is so often the root of her decision making over the years.

It will all end in tears.

Just saying how people get jobs, Tom Smith seems to be being slated for being offered a job, "without any qualifications"! He's only just started his photography business after many years in various government positions, decision making and strategy in difficult circumstances seem to be his strong points. I'm just wondering what qualifications are needed to be a director of a football club? As many people on here seem to think they know!
So he's a relation of existing directors, does that exclude him from holding a position in that business? It doesn't, there are many situations where son's/daughters took over the family business, some succeed some don't, but its not unusual.
The relevance of my question to you was; Are you qualified to do this job, I didn't have any idea how you got it, but seems you are and were voted on I presume by people on this forum most of whom you've never met! I'm not denying you that situation or saying you shouldn't be doing it, but you are and have been given the chance, where as a lot of people don't seem to offer Tom Smith that opportunity. I know you'll say that its a bad comparison, but its about being offered a job and taking it and doing the best you can, doesn't matter what it is!
I'm not trying to offend anyone, I just don't agree with a lot of whats being said.
