Its a perfectly valid point to introduce him at a lower level so he understands how a club works. He's straight in there and hasn't had to work for it, build relationships, gained experience.

I work for a large family business and all the family members had to work at running departments etc for numerous years before becoming directors.

I think the majority, ILD - and it's purely a guess, are saying the jury is still out. <ok>

Cromer, it's the more vocal ones I disagree with, and it's a debating forum isn't it? You know how I feel about my club, and what Delia has done for it. Yes she or the board have made some decisions that have backfired, that happens in all business's as a business man you will know that, but she and her husband care passionately about the club, the staff and most of all the fans, so I'm happy with them being in charge, others don't, I can't change their minds but can debate my points of view, and will continue to do so without resorting to being vicious about it.

I don't remember Fry getting this much vitriol when he was appointed. That had little effect that I can detect, maybe this will work out better, who knows.

Good to see you posting ILD. Respect your views whether I agree or not, and I promise not to get personal and call you daft if and when I do disagree! <ok>

The trouble is ILD you have championed the debate aspect of a forum and then labelled anyone negative for disagreeing with you.

People have come up with numerous valid reason as to why they think it is a bad idea. You have no real answer to back your opinion other than you trust Delia Smith. Most people look for reasoning in their decision making.

My take on this appointment is that Delia and MWJ have no potential (suitable) buyers on the radar. I suspect that maybe they are concerned that time is ticking on and that they will be looking to step down from their active roles in the next couple of years. The options then are they leave and take their cash with them through a management buyout or by selling to what they perceive as a less than ideal buyer. Either way as fans of the club i think they're doing what they feel is best for the cub.

By putting Tom in they can get him up to speed over the next couple of years and then leave their investment in the club when it's time to depart under the control of Tom. Therefore, Norwich keep that investment cash (which in the whole scheme of things becomes less significant every year in the PL) but the Smith family still retain control of that money.

I honestly don't see a massive benefit as some have suggested in Tom working his way around the club shop, catering, ticket office etc first off. I'm sure heads of those depts will have their time with him in coming months. Yes it's nepotism but I can see why they've done it and I hope it all works out for the best. It's a massive opportunity for him and he'd be bonkers not to grab it with both hands and work his arse off.

    ILD.

In terms of "name calling" in two of your threads prior to me referring to you as "being a bit twitchy" you referred to me as negative. I am in no way offended by this, it's your opinion and I respect this but either sort your own house and don't use any pejorative terms or try to be a bit more relaxed when others post. Generally on this board when either people start insulting one another or complaining about being victims it is a pretty sure sign they are on the wrong side of the argument. I have tried not to offend anyone on this thread and would challenge anyone to quote anything I have posted which is offensive.

In terms of people hoping TS will fail I just can't see any of the posters on the threads saying this. I think its fair to say we all want the club to go from strength to strength and whilst I certainly hope that TS does a fine job and succeeds however I question the wisdom of putting him in that role with his current level of experience at running either a football club or a multi million pound organisation.

In terms of the board. Once again TS has not, and for clarity I repeat, has not replaced SF. Being on the board is not like other jobs. A company can have two board members should it choose or a hundred. One person leaving does not, and again for clarity, does not require another to join in the same way that one joining does not mean that another has to resign. It is up to the shareholders to decide the size and composition of the board they require. All this talk of Fry is utterly irrelevant, the role mapped out for him at NCFC and that mapped out for TS are completely different (as I have previously stated) and to compare the two is erroneous.

In terms of other roles TS could have below board level - such experience TS has is in the area of media so perhaps a role within the club's media function may have been appropriate with a view to his then becoming Communications Director - nobody was suggesting that he cleans boots or makes the tea. Within the organisation there are loads of middle management roles he could have taken up to learn the ropes before moving up to the board.

To question a decision is not to state that it is wrong. There is a subtle difference. At this point until we see how TS does we have no idea as to whether appointing him is a mistake or not. Without wishing to go over old ground this again is something I have posted earlier on this thread.

HMQC - just because Delia and Michael don't have a buyer on the horizon doesn't mean that they have to put TS on the board they could simply appoint a team of McNally like professionals to run the club on their behalf until they either sell up or pop their clogs. If TS has ability then I have no issue with him taking over in due course but all I am (repeatedly) saying is that at the moment the jury is out and I would have been more comfortable with his appointment if he had a modicum of experience of running a business of the stature of NCFC and at least paid lip service to working his way up through the ranks. My personal experience of family run organisations is that often the generation which has had it given to them on a plate are less capable and motivated.as they have not known the hard times of getting the business up and running.

Norfolkboy, I'm sorry if I've offended you, and I hope you don't find this next bit offensive as well, but, I won't read any more of these "battering ram" posts, I have an opinion about the situation which I'm sticking to and Wont be battered into changing my mind. Apologies again if you don't like that.

Apparently politely stating a reasoned opinion is a battering ram approach to debating, who knew.
ILD is of course entitled to his own opinion, and to stick to it, but surely the whole point of a forum is to debate and exchange views. Carrabuh's post #65 nails it.

I was referring to the length of the replys as battering rams, not his opinion which he's entitled to. As to Carrabuh posts I've blocked them so I have no idea what he's saying.

This is one of those decisions where I think the board on a totally different planet. Not interested in a bunch of celebrities being at this club along with their mates, these people don't care about the club they are only after freebies. We should of been looking at a way to win over young local fans who support clubs like Manchester Untied and Chelsea.

Sorry Northamptonncfc but I go to nearly ALL hoe games and there are lots of families with children only a few years old right up to teenagers.
I wonder how many of those that 'support' Manchester Untied and Chelsea have ever even been near Old Trafford/Stamford Bridge etc etc!!!!

It's always been well supported locally never doubted that but it could be better, there will still be glory supporters walking around though and that's across the whole of Norfolk.
