Received correspondence from the Halifax regarding my ISA....(oh goody goody they're upping the pathetic interest rate).....yes it was about the interest that they're paying on the account.....changing the rate from 0.5%.....to 0.25%....good grief how do the retired find ways to safely earn a bit of extra from their savings......ok I know the account doesn't pay income tax...but bleaging hell...0.25% interest.

ps.....The off season.... a good time to talk of other things that interest you or in this case wind you up.

PS Plym try the Coventry Building Society and/or NS&I Probably means operating the accounts online though. Some like that, some don't.

By jove you where quick there with a comment notdistant....I'll look into it.....I do feel that after 52 years holding accounts in the Halifax that I'm taken for granted....or even just part of the wallpaper.....how would those accounts compare to an ISA being tax free ?

Following recent changes to tax on savings you need to be earning £1000 (i think, though dont take my word for it) interest a year before it is taxed. So, if your interest rate is 0.25% you would have to have savings of £400k before you would pay any tax which for most people makes the tax free advantages of a normal cash ISA redundant. Not offering any financial advice but I have always stashed a bit of money into premium bonds (NS&I) and my winnings have amounted to more than would have been received through a normal savings account. A few £25 wins throughout the year soon adds up and I won £1000 two years ago. Obviously not guaranteed to win anything but given the pittance you will earn in normal interest it might be worth thinking about.

Really? I tanked it back but haven't got a ticket (would have thought it would have come by now). Having said that, I always keep to the speed limit in roadwork and the 'smart' motorway bits (managed speed) so perhaps people fell foul in these sections-unless they went via the 303 which is notorious for speed cameras.

No chance of any speeding on my trip home from Wembley.......four trains used to get home after a walk round the back of the stadium to Wembley Central.....was a bank holiday service so more waiting than riding.

It was the bloodsucking cameras between the M4/M5 intersection and the M32 exit. I assumed they were only active when variable speed limits were operational but evidently they are on all the time.

    First ticket for 10 years!

I'm now spending time when I should be looking ahead fiddling about with the speed limiter. A real contribution to road safety I'm sure!

Ahh, I must admit that I only found out a few months ago that the managed motorway cameras are active 24/7 even when there in no reduced speed limit. It is quite tricky to remember to sit at 70 even when it is very quiet and not sure how they contribute to road safety.

Never had a speeding ticket until recently.. I was motoring tho.. i was well over a 100 on the A30 a few weeks ago, got stopped by an umarked car.. he showed me the recording in the car.. wow.. I was going some.. Instant ban i thought.. it was not quite double the limited 140.. but over 100. He said he would look back at the camera and i was done for 95.. 3 points or a course .. took the points as cant sit in a room.. It has taught me to use cruise control... difficult when you have a fast car.. i have learnt my lesson.. even tho the road was clear and i was not weaving in and out.. To many cameras about now.. Yep i have one of those limiter Distance but never used it until recently.. What speed did it record you at?

I think this speeding ticket thing is terrible. They should have realised that Argyle were awful and that everyone couldn't get out of there fast enough.....

Try a fixed bond plym. Ties your money up for a set time but some of the rates aren't that bad. Post Office is reasonable and a lot better than 0.25. Think we got 2.60 this year for a one year term.

    87 Joe - £100 and 3 points.

It's annoying especially as you see the most appalling driving every time you go out which goes entirely unpunished by the cameras.

Going up wasn't so bad but coming back I passed a man holding his mobile phone and the wheel in the same hand obviously texting or setting the satnav. This at 70+ mph in quite heavy traffic and - wait for it - with 2 small children in the back. Also a guy continually undertaking and then pushing back aggressively into into the outer lane.

Plym try Birmingham Midshires fixed bonds. Or try the bookies.. IN or OUT?

Distant i are the people on their phones eat is dreadful all with kids on board and smoking.. I see then constantly as in a van you can see in their cars.. Even some of the cars that race about are not road worthy.. These are the ones that are dangerous not all the speeders. Agree the limit is the limit.. but 70? 25 years ago it was fast.. the car use to shake at that speed..

I was doing a lot more than that and got 100.00 and 3 points.. i was lucky.. at least the one who stopped me was ok, i think most are but with the cameras you have had it..

The ironic thing is that I think what I remember happening was that as I joined the M4, a guy coming up behind let me out of the slow moving inside lane, which was most considerate. There wasn't much in front but he was quite close behind, so I put on a bit of a spurt to make a gap and give him some space. Obviously he knew about the cameras and was probably horrified to see me shoot off like that!

The stupid thing is that I think my brother but a ticket in exactly the same place a couple of years ago, so I should have known!

Yep cameras are every place now. At least if you get stopped they are more considerate, well in my case they were thankfully, or i would have had a 4 week ban i suppose for going over a 100.. Learnt my lesson..

Cameras are not my problem....it's three way traffic lights at the end of my very quiet cul-de-sac.

Opposite my road junction someone (gas, electric who knows ?) have dug a hole in the road surrounded it with plastic barriers and sodded off for four days at the moment......traffic on the main road ignore the lights if they see no one is coming from the other direction....completely ignoring the cul-de-sac.....so when it's green for the cul-de-sac.....it can be very dangerous coming out without checking for light jumpers on the main road.

What a miserable couple of days weather wise. This is supposed to be summer with today being the longest day. Is this yet another washout. Nature has a way of being quite cruel. At the moment travelling anywhere in the World if you are a westerner is a bit dodgy. Many people think it isn't worth taking a risk so are choosing to stay in the UK where the good old English weather is doing what it does best. Raining all fecking day long.
