You in the bar again Plym. Bleddy turning into an alkie. I had an estimate for some work today which is likely to be around £5k so I can't afford a round. I notice you didn't offer............still got them long pockets in your trousers I see.

Anytime a straw is required just let me know and bring your pen. I will need a receipt and the contract signing. There are special deals for pensioners but that is an age related thing rather than somebody whose just a lazy git and decided to pack in and do nothing. Pensioners require proof of age and a medical certificate not less than a month old. Glad to help......

Oh, I thought 'school night' was a universal saying. Perhaps it is just an RN thing. Just a phrase used to denote any evening that preceded a day that pupils go to school on i.e Sunday through Thursday. As I got older and wiser (and had a tad more responsibility) it was a polite way of declining any invitation to go out boozing midweek if I didn't want a hangover on a working day. Not training for a proper job, I have applied for a few but seems I am overqualified for those that I want to do. Those that I am qualified for are all high powered and stressful and not particularly attractive to me.....I keep telling the Mrs I am trying hard but it is quite nice being at home!

No not yet, but I get lots of emails from job websites that apparently match my qualifications. Not too worried yet but could do with landing something in the next couple of months (if only to finance No2's £8k a year accommodation fees at UNI!)

Maybe a bit of night shift stacking shelves down the local supermarket.........you could line the tins up in straight rows and make sure the labels are all facing the same way.......

Seriously I doubt if you would want to travel to far or move elsewhere to get employment....surely you just need to top up your pension a little and keep the brain ticking over.

When my father retired from the RAF,.....he found a job in an office block as a commisionaire/security.....and he was respected for his loyalty and his commitment to his job.

Funnily I was only looking through some of his paperwork and photos from his service days recently....letters of acknowledgement from all his C/O's over the years recommending him to any future employers once he returned to civvy street......looking through his Certificate of Service Book.....every section saying either....Exemplary or Exceptional.....the perfect record over the 28 years he served...until deemed unfit for service because of a hernia problem.

Never realized all that when young.....only when I inherited all his bits and pieces after my parents had both died....I've got his SWO's cane (with a RAF badge on the top), which he used on the parade ground drilling the peasants.....(and Officers)......memories only now of course.....kept it quiet when doing my National Service that my father had been a SWO,.......from those beady eyed Cpls doing basic training drill.

You need a job where you don't have to think a lot, can shirk most days and charge punters any old money you like. Can I suggest a Gas Fitter?

You lie like a hairy egg! Unfortunately the state of my knees and hips means I cant really do a lot of manual work of full time . Just about mange the garden, allotment and DIY-and that is with the help of too many painkillers. Am sure we will survive, giving the cleaner her notice today and if the worst happens and I cant get anything will have to think about cancelling Sky.:emoticon-0101-sadsm

Pull the other one Joe.....a poorly paid plumber doesn't exist.....worth gold dust if you found a reliable one.

I went into MacDonalds today to get a new straw to bring to the party tonight in the club house. Thought as I'd been around the bars a bit toping up my bottle from the spare glasses laying around it was time to join in the party. What do I find when I get here.......the place is a **** tip full of dust, nobody is here and the Bar staff have deserted their post. Apparently the barmaid is pregnant and has run off with the pot washer. I find that a bit difficult to take as I thought she was a Thai ladyboy. She did put that on her job application. Not only have they buggered off but they have taken my old stock of nuts and half the bleddy crisps with them. Fine end to a bleddy year this is. I'm going to have to order new nuts now and the straw was a waste of effort getting it.

I'm just going to have to see the New Year in on my own. Please don't waste your sympathy on me. A drink and bag of crisps would be fine though.

Well you deserve to drink alone going into such a downmarket hell hole as MacDonalds........have you lost that pack of fifty straws you bought awhile back.....we'd only used one.....I expect you can only push a knitting needle down it so many times to take the teeth marks out of it.

I didn't go into MacDonalds to buy a drink Plym but just to collect the straw. I've never bought a box of them in my life. Why would I when they do them free.

Don't worry about the cleaning up Lyndie it was windy today so I opened all the windows and let nature do the job. Few leaves around now but what the hell. I'm still hacked off with the missing nuts and crisps thugh so if anyone wants to donate to buying some more in then cheques can be made payable to me.

I was up last night but I seldom go to bed before about 1am anyway. That's so we can stay in bed later in the morning to save having to buy in breakfast. We go straight to lunch instead given the cost of steak and bacon. Anyway enough of my woes. Happy New Year to you all and I hope the job comes in soon Lyndhurst. The only reason I stay alive is so that younger people can go on working long into their 60's or even 70 these days. It's the only fun I get when I draw the old pension.
