Sacked by Derby for gross misconduct.

I think it's absolutely justified in the sense that as club captain, he's put himself in a ridiculous position, but it seems that Derby have put themselves in a tricky spot by not sacking the 2 drivers involved. Coincidentally, the 2 drivers are not injured for 14 months, are not 34 years of age and have potentially large sell on fees.

Cold, hard, business from Derby. I'm pretty certain Keogh's lawyers might have something to say on the matter though.

The club rightfully asked him to half his wages for the next 12 months while he recovered from his self inflicted Knee injury.... He refused so they sacked him. What a nob sack

    Very clever by derby.
Saved 2m or so in wages on a player who has no resale value anyway due to his age

Absolutely. But you’ve broken club rules and injured yourself in doing so. They offered a deal to stay on half pay (still a substantial chunk of money in most walks of life) and you say “err no. I want all my money”. Surely the PFA should be advising him to take the deal? I’m a union rep fir the nhs and I would’ve advised him to take the deal!!!!

He's a footballer on ( allegedly ) 24k pw. Captain of the team. I think after the original kerfuffle died down he thought he could go back to normal. Oversized ego and footballers go like a finger up a bum.
    Derby have played a blinder
Their fans were up in arms so now they will be happy the club has taken a stand against footballers who should know better and drink driving. Along with kudos all that money saved..kerching!

But why didnt they sack him in the first place? Was it because by rights they would then have had to sack the 2 young ones as well and take a financial hit?
But now they've sacked him will they will need to still sack the other 2 because they cant legally sack him for refusing to take a pay cut surely?

The other two should have been sacked as well though.

Should have been all or none in my opinion.

Just shows in my opinion that ALL clubs are as fickle. The other two players are younger 1st team players and are worth a few million each at least. Keogh should have apologised took the punishment and got his head down. What an idiot.

If they were all offered the same deal and the youngsters took it to follow a career, there's no reason to sack them. Depends on the situation. Guess we’ll never know

If they've sacked him because of the drink driving incident then the precedent is set to get rid of all.

Fact is the others are fit, have value and are of a younger age so that wouldn't be prudent.

If it's another reason which we're not aware of then fair enough.

If id have done the same as him id have had 3 months sick pay from my company and then id have had to claim sick pay from the state which equates to about 60 pound a week (i think), for the rest of the 9 months. Id have probably ended up losing my house amongst other things, and my boys would have a shyte Xmas etc. The same goes with most people that live in the real world.

The bloke sounds like a right kock. Hed have still been on about 10k a week for sitting on his ar$e nursing his self inflicted knee injury. I hope he never kicks another ball in his life, the greedy prick.

Should have taken the pay cut imo. Not setting a good example as captain by getting pissed up then getting in a car being driven by a pissed up team mate like. Add in he's 33 and out for at least a year and easy to see why Derby wanted to bring down their financial commitment to him with a reduced terms contract.

Disciplinary proceedings are always at the discretion of the employer.

Derby may have boxed smart by keeping the younger, saleable assets, but there is no way on earth that he’d beat them in a court of law.

They could say that his was an extreme case, as the club captain, and could quite openly say ‘yes, there is the fact that the other 2 are financial assets’.

It may be shady, but I tell you what, if I was making the decisions I’d have made exactly the same ones, knowing full well that I was bang within my rights as an employer to do so.

Think this hits the nail square on the head. You or I would be up **** creak if this was us. This lad had enough money to live on. No doubt the pfa will wangle some sort of pay off fir him as they never seem to just accept things like this
