Yeovil Town defender Nathan Smith has signed for Chesterfield, the BBC reports.

The 24-year-old rejected a new deal with the Glovers to sign a two-year deal with the Spireites.

He told the Chesterfield website: "My aim is to reach the play-offs, or even promotion. Chesterfield are on the up and I want to be a part of that."

Smith, who made made 119 appearances for his former club, follows Adam Virgo, Andy Welsh, Dean Bowditch, Martin Gritton and Sam Williams out of the door.

But he arrives at Chesterfield with a glowing reference from Yeovil boss Terry Skiverton.

He told BBC Radio Bristol: "Out of everyone Nathan is the one I really wanted to keep.

"We pushed the boat out, we went beyond what we would normally offer but I spoke to the lad this morning and he wanted a fresh start and he goes on with my best regards.

"He was an excellent servant to the football club. I've played with him, managed him and you couldn't have got a better player.

"I'm very disappointed he's gone but we move on."
