Match day thread anyone? Might as well.

Fernandes out so that change forced on us, might see DVDB get a game? Hope so.

Otherwise, front three of Greenwood, Cavani and Sancho please.

    Must win game.

We need to see a new dimension to the team in terms of going forward which has been extremely problematic for the better part of three months. Rashford should not start today.

I missed the first half but this second half has been a lobster sandwich snooze fest. Better step forward in creating chances than previous four matches. I think that Cavani needs to stay in the startup.

The result of this match is a reflection of Burnley’s awfulness rather than United’s brilliance.

Thought we pissed it myself, but I suppose even Ole would have managed a win tonight, yes.

In the last several weeks, we have played Norwich, Newcastle and Burnley. We were not convincing in any of those matches. Wolves will be a decent test for the team but one that we should absolutely win, especially given we would be playing at home. Still not convinced that we have a working team by any stretch of the imagination.

We still look way off that stage, still at least we are no longer wasting Rashford on the right and have benched him for his poor form.
Now we are hampering Sancho on the left instead. Would be nice when 3-1 up and say 20mins to go to see how much some other players wanted it and would play to instructions, people like DVDB, Amad, Elanga and possibly Lingard.

He was playing the ball into Cavani centre of goal but it got deflected in by a defender, still would have been a goal though.

Man's wasted on the left but is more effective than Rashford on the right.

The team still hasn’t got the dynamism and solidity expected of a top (and eventually title chasing) side. The players still seem confused and Rangnick has had 2 months to sort it out. Of course Covid hasn’t helped but would have expected more change in that time.

Come on, Christian! I sense bias there. The man took full charge this month after he got his work permit. He hasn’t been in the job for a month. Where did you get two months from?

Besides, we haven’t lost a game since Ole left. That itself is a record given the disgraceful mess that the team had become.

Things can certainly be better, but we are by no means worse off than any other prior moment this season. I don’t see player confusion either. That’s not what I get when I watch the current play. The final third is poor but collectively they are far better than those awful matches in October and November.

He's had 3/4 games in charge ffs <laugh>

I read the rest of the nonsense posted by some on the Newcastle thread.
You know, it is possible to see a difference in tactical approaches between different managers and judge each one on those also? So the reason CAN be different between why Ole and Rangnick aren't getting the best out of the squad when the performances are dire. Just a thought like <ok>

Tactically, Ole set the team up to play overly cautious, inhibiting (what I call coward) football. I haven't seen that in the games I've watched under Rangnick.

So what are the reasons for the poor performances?

Even when we're winning we don't control games.

    1) The lack of a quality CM is desperately needed to control the game.
    2) A defence which hasn't been coached over the past 2 years is still lacking in confidence and unity.
    3) 18 months of coward football which relied on route one football for large parts will require a heck of a lot more work to actually learn to play a high press, pass and move expansive game.
    4) Players who either aren't pulling their weight or haven't yet come to terms with Rangnick's style and expectations.

ALL of this will take time. Dare I say, a fck of a lot more than 3/4 games.

First game in charge was Palace, December 5th.

    26 day's ago.

Two months though, obvs, and clearly already a failure.

A friend brought up Antonio Conte’s impact at Spurs to suggest that perhaps we should have gone for him. But when you bring up the matches played under Conte, you find that he’s won 4 of 7 matches and drawn 3. Five of those matches were also played at home. Comparatively, we’ve won 3 of the last 4 league games with a draw away to Newcastle with 2 goals conceded in December. Hardly earth shattering considering the opponents, but also hardly a let down to already start suggesting that there is something wrong.

Yes, we have issues in the midfield that simply isn’t creating enough chances. But also haven’t looked like complete headless fks that we became earlier in the season.

I am personal enamoured by the fact that there is a structure that the team is now trying to work with under the current management. Unlike the thoughtless sht that we operated under for the last three years. Changing that horrible habit isn’t a 26-day task. But I will certainly the results of the past four matches as a stepping stone.

Rangnick is still in the honeymoon period amongst you lot. Thank goodness some of us are willing to be hard nosed and completely unbiased <cool>
