He didn't turn up for the selection week which made it very hard to select him Retirement makes absolutely no difference if a country calls you up
The rules seem clear. Matip needed to state in writing he is not available or retired to his supposed country. There is zero and i mean zero in the rules i read that then says a punishment is possible. Nobody but the player can write it so it is entirely down to him. He knows the country will publish anything he sends so hes prob not done anything. It should be made clear to him to immediately sort his aituation out within the next 24 hours
There is no such thing as retirement from international football (unless you retire from football completely), there are cases of players being called up after announcing their "retirement" and having to accept it.
I don't see why it should be mandatory to play for your nation. They don't pay you and you have no contract with them.
The rule is clear. You put it in writing. Not from your club but from yourself. Its not slavery you know
Should be unless you formally retire from International football, and if you do that, shouldn't be allow to come out of retirement for a certain period of time to avoid situation where could retire to miss a tournament then come back etc. Some of these sides have a very limited pool of players to chose from and players should be proud to play for their country and represent their people. Add to that doing well in tournaments brings money from FIFA to their FA's to help develop the game, something which I'd imagine in Africa is very necessary.
Well fifa and the relevant fa's should start paying their wages then. We the clubs pay the players wages and can't play them. What kind of ****ed up ****e is that!!
This is really a throw back to a byegone era when a call up was a true honor and internationals were the highest for of the game. Rather like rugby or cricket still is... in football internationals are avtually a serious step below european competition and prob the 5/6 top leagues in europe. Fifa being of course too busy with its snout in corporate troughs has missed the fact that hardly anyone gives a flying **** about internationals any more. And so we have a player who could take fifa to an court of arbitration for sport in the morning and win without question asking for clarity and recieving none. Thus fifa once more prove themselves completely out of touch. Oh and every player thinking maybe he ought to play for dads home country just went hhmmmm maybe not after all. And that of course is the worst outcome for all countries.
Theres the we cant get rid of you types (rooney) and the dont call us we will call you types like charlton. If the fa called it seems old bobby would have to kit out... luckily for him nobody has called in a very long time.
I recall it happening a fair few years ago but sure it was changed so players couldn't be forced to play. I could be wrong but if I am, it's a typical Fifa **** up so...
