agree with the above, slightly hostile early responses. All people will do is discourage posters and then we will be no better than the Pompey board will we! In response to the posters question - I think both strikers mentioned are big possibiltys for us, and you have to allow for the 30-40% english player tax ;-) Maynard more likely as Rodriguez is young and hes a home grown lad. Big defender and Gorkks fits the bill, however is he premiership, QPR dont think so, and we are building for the prem, There has been recent rumours I have read about anton ferdinand, he could be a possibility also although still not a 100% about him for Prem. i wouldnt be surprised if you see 2 more defenders in and a couple leave - dickinson could go permanant and we could loan a couple of the defenders out like martin. Whatever happens Saints know they need a partner for Fonte and atleast one other striking option.
I think we are several players short of having a side realistically capable of winning promotion. I'm also not sure why we are wasting money on ANOTHER left back when we already have two who are more than capable at this level, but look horribly short at both centre back, up front and down the wings.
agreed, dont know why people get so aggressive, are we not all supposed to support the same team??!! Not sure about ferdinand, he started against liverpool this weekend, looks like sunderland want to keep him How about that Danny Wilson from Liverpool??? Young and quick but looked a class act for rangers! Also i think with our good relations with arsenal after they ve pinched our best youngsters think they owe us a favour or two! Id tap Wenger straight up for some of his youngsters like vela, frimpong, etc,
agreed, Fox for sure is a good player, i trust in NA and NC but i think 1.8 mill for a player when we already ahve 2 good enough LBs seems excessive...... we def need another RM and CF
I wouldn't say anybody was being agressive. I think people were just referring to the fact that there have already been many posts about the same subject. We don't want this forum to turn into the old 606, where we had 20 posts about the same thing. Welcome to Not606, it is friendly here, honest!
It may be slightly excessive but I can't see Harding and Dickson being good enough for the premier league when we get there
It could be due to the fact we are building a squad for the PREMIER LEAGUE. As much as people may like them, do you realistically see Harding and Dickson being a consistent Premier League performer? Also, I don't know how you can call Fox a waste of money when you haven't seen him play yet...
Totally agree with sfc94. I think Dickson has just got enough to survive in the Championship but no where near enough for top Championship/Prem. I've seen Fox on a few occasions and he looks a pretty classy left back. Comfortable on the ball, athletic and good on set pieces.
completely agree, Fox was bought with the view to being a compitent premier league left back, I think he was a consistant performer for Burnley in their year they had there, Saints are going for it this season and I completely agree as whats the point in waiting. The signing of Fox maybe predominantly to secure the left back spot but people have got to see this as more than that, He is of course a left back or can be used as a wing back he also can play left midfield and be used as a winger so you have a player who can plate in a mix of positions and could probably do a shift in the middle of the park to if required. Good signing in my opinion. I think NA will bring in another 3 or even 4 with a possibly 4 leaving loan/perm - 2 strikers and 2 defenders in JP leaving - maybe loan? Jo Mills leaving - Perm Aaron martin could go on loan. Forte - maybe a loan although still unsure about NA views on him now Dickson - being used in part of a deal with someone.
If that is the case then why did we sign him in the first place? First signing that we have bought that is very short sighted in my opinion.
Perhaps Fox has been signed with a view to improving the squad, but its a bit like Arsenal (on a much smaller scale). Yes perhaps AOC will be a good signing, I just think that at the moment it would have been better spending the money elsewhere. What i'm saying is that i'm comfortable with Harding or Dickson as left backs at the moment, but i'm not comfortable with the fact that we seem to have no proven partner for Fonte, look light up front and could probably do with another winger (although this is far less of a priority for me).
Woah... when we signed Dickson we had 1 left back and had just released a full team's worth of players. He was young, cheap and could play anywhere on the left. He's not a star player but he was still pretty important, we were in League One at the time and we weren't about to sign any Premiership standard players.
Agreed, and he played an important role in quite a few games last season, had Harding been injured and we not signed Dickson, we would have been left with youth player Ben Reeves to fill in so I definitely think that Dickson was an important signing.
This thread had fallen on to the forum's second page which obviously tells you people's focus has been elsewhere recently - this is no surprise given the fact that the season is now well underway! Anyway, here are the latest rumours concerning the club from the the ever reliable internet: - QPR are now enquiring about a loan move for Jason Puncheon as they refuse to fork out the £1million asking price. - Newcastle have made a bid of £4.5million + Leon Best for Bristol City's Nicky Maynard I know, I know - it's media bull, we wont believe it till it's on the OS etc etc, but still, what are people's thoughts?
I'd be concerned if money was tight enough that it appeared an either/or. Given the players we've apparently inquired about, I get the sense that getting Fox won't prevent us from getting a centre back or striker; that we haven't seems more about finding the right fit than finding the money.
