https://www.safc.com/news/club-news/2017/june/club-statement Recently, we informed supporters that discussions were taking place with parties who had expressed an interest in acquiring ownership of Sunderland AFC. Subsequently, more detailed talks were held over the last week with one of these groups. Ellis Short and the board were committed to ascertain if this group was better placed to take the club forward in the right way and to improve it, both on and off the pitch. A defined timeframe was placed on discussions to ensure that the club could move forward quickly and decisively with its plans for the new season should they not come to fruition. We have concluded these talks and have determined that this proposed sale would not be in the best interests of Sunderland AFC. Ellis Short will continue his commitment to the club, both financially and personally, moving forward. We would like to thank our supporters for their patience during what we know has been a period of uncertainty and frustration for them. Preston North End have granted us permission to speak with Simon Grayson regarding the manager’s position. ------------------------------------------------------ I like the "We would like to thank our supporters for their patience during what we know has been a period of uncertainty and frustration for them." SO does this mean we have clarity now? Do we ****! Come out and say "We would like to inform the fans that the transfer incomings of late and over the close season will be reinvested" and the fans would likely get behind the regime to some extent. We're still in a point of uncertainty you ****wits!
Gutted at hearing this, bad news for the club and for Short in my mind. Grayson is an absolute nobody who has done absolutely nothing.
That's me done with Sunderland until short and co is gone. What a waste of ****ing time the last 6 weeks have been. Good luck with 20,000 crowds you ****ing idiots.
I remember when 20000 was a cracking crowd at Roker Park! I completely understand your sentiment but I'll still be there (although can;t make the Friday 4th August game as it's the wife's birthday!)
This club is unbelievable. Also not happy at all with Grayson who the **** is he going to attract to the club. Looks like championship football for the foreseeable future.
What a joke I've never felt so little pride in being a Sunderland supporter. I'm not even angry. That new buzz word of ours 'apathetic' springs to mind. Today the club I loved died
Thing is - we don;t know the finer details (playing devil's advocate) that term "not in the best interests of SAFC" could be right - it may be that they were like Vincent Tan on that bloke at Hull. Or that line could translet to "They would only pay Ellis what the club is actually currently worth and I wan't my money back for the time I've been here"
There's always the rumoured American interest to look into when the timing is right. Can't go wrong with a wealthy American owner.
As soon as the Grayson news broke I knew that the takeover talks had broken down. Went out for my dinner break, come back and my fears had been confirmed. Hehe!
We are second tier now though. Not sure any managerial target would have held much clout when it comes to attracting players. I'd be hoping that being one of the bigger fish we would attract the players we need, despite the manager. Weve been second tier for the majority of my supporting life so our current plight doesnt really bother me. In fact if we went bust I dont think I would be too disheartened. Might miss it after a year or two maybe.
I'm pretty gutted that the club hasn't been sold on but not about Grayson. However until a new manager is confirmed I wont even consider thinking about potential signings.
We should do what that little Cornish village has done and re-name our ground the Godolphin Stadium. Then just sit back and wait
Gradually fallen out of love with football generally. For at least the past couple of seasons it has spread to the club. Our plight would have caused sleepless nights in the past. Unless I'm on an internet forum or its between 3-5pm on a Saturday afternoon, I barely give them a second thought. Football/SAFC is more of a hobby than a passion now.
"Ellis Short will continue his commitment to the club, both financially and personally, moving forward." Definite signs of solvent abuse here
We might struggle to get 25,000-30,000 at home games. Wouldn't blame them either. I can envisage a serious lack of enthusiasm amongst the crowd this season. However if we somehow get off to a flyer things will be different. Cant see that happening though.
