Legendary boxer and subject of one of my favourite films, "Raging Bull" Jake LaMotta has died aged 95... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-41339153
Let me make a recommendation. If you go on holiday, where you self cater, perhaps in a rented house, with a pool, where you have snacks outside as you sunbathe, or you occasionally go on an adventure, with a picnic, rather than eating at every restaurant, take away or snack-bar chain that shouts its name at you, why not pop into the local supermarket and get a few of these: please log in to view this image It's the sort of thing the French do better than we do. They have so many variations on the great emulsified stuff that it's extremely difficult to say, I don't like mayonnaise and extremely easy to say that you do. So I brought back these three. I would have brought back more but I also had two loaves of boule bread and a few tins of Cassoulet, so things were getting crowded and heavy in the luggage department. Note: You'll notice I've already hit the lemon variation. My favourite.
Fascinating fact (you will find it fascinating) is that all London bridges are paid for and maintained by a charity set up in the 13th century ....up to and including the Millennium Bridge. They now also give money to other causes to benefit London after their charter was changed due to a surplus of money.
Do I detect sarcasm? I love stuff like that....Google is not only my friend...it is my BFF*. And you are my captive audience. *Actually saw this on a TV programme last year, but checked details this morning.
In fairness, Tesco now sell aioli in the dips section and it's very nice. Lemon mayonnaise is easy enough to make yourself as is bearnaise. Hellman's mayo is good quality and you can add anything you fancy to it
Indeed no. It was my Mr Spock impersonation and you provided the opportunity for me to use it. I like quirky facts too.
Have you actually tasted the above three from Benedicta.? Hellman's is all very well. but it's a poor substitute. Tbh, my local Lidl does a closer own-brand version of fine basic mayonnaise.
That's peculiar, because I can even see the photo in your post. Here's Microsoft's snipping tool doing it's thing to show you: There you go.
Did loads of unpacking and putting away yesterday, amidst a bit of whisky drinking to drown my sorrows of being back in a cold country. Last thing, I decided to watch a film. So I finally got around to Baby Driver [2017]. What can I say.? Basically, "it ain't as good as good as it was cracked up to be". Certainly, as far as I was concerned. Yes, there is the fact that the action is cleverly tailored or maybe synchronised to the musical soundtrack, but it does become a wee bit gimmicky sometimes. The main players are all pretty good in it, especially Jamie Foxx [again]. He even managed to steal practically every scene that he and Kevin Spacey shared. The story is fairly simple. Young boy is involved in a fatal traffic accidents for his parents. Losing them, especially his mother, means he loses his moral guidance for a while and he becomes involved with stealing cars and driving them away fast and very skilfully. He then gets caught by a rich head of crime, who allows him to steal his car [and massive cash as it happens] but brings his crime web around the lad to pounce. But he likes the lad's style and recruits him as a runaway driver. The lad has a singular focus to his driving because he works to fast music, which he constantly plays to drown out his tinnitus [a bit like me there, only I have it at the lowest possible volume and I don't just play music. Plus I only play mine to go to sleep]. Hence he constantly wears earphones. Anyway, dee-da-dee-da, the choreography of bank robbing and driving away is the action of the film. There is a very simple love story and also one of honour and dishonour amongst thieves, but they are very simply played, so I did find myself popping the film into a corner of the screen and playing one round of Backgammon at one point. Not that the film is boring. It's OK. But I was expecting better. If I have lowered your expectations enough from reading this review then I'll recommend the film. If you still have high expectations, then don't bother. I don't think it will fulfill them. And Paul Simon's Baby Driver is played at the closing credits. If you haven't already seen it, here's a trailer:
Thanks, now I can see it. Love aioli. Have it in Spain all the time. What I would really like to get hold of is a recipe for the red pepper and tomato sauce they serve with "magra con tomate", ,in Spain, which is basically diced pork in a very rich and thick sauce. The sauce is absolutely superb. Anyone?
